Tripping the Rift
  • Most severe swearing is censored and there is no nudity, although there are still plenty of sexual humor to be found (this show is definitely not for the kiddies)
  • It starts out as being quite interesting, taking a full on frontal assault against both the idea of God and that of religion

God is our Pilot is the first ever full length episode of the CGI animated series “Tripping the Rift. ” It had previously debuted as a 6 minute Internet film which gained quite a bit of popularity for taking a skewed and rather filthy view on the world of science fiction (featuring both profanity and nudity in its brief 6 minute spoof).

God is our Pilot is a bit toned down

from the original 6 minute episode, “Love and Darph.

” Most severe swearing is censored and there is no nudity, although there are still plenty of sexual humor to be found (this show is definitely not for the kiddies).

This episode also took on something rarely discussed in science fiction, at least rarely discussed in such a straightforward fashion: God and religion.

It starts out as being quite interesting, taking ...

      • a full on frontal assault against both the idea of God and that of religion.

However about halfway through it loses its strength of will and backs out of its stance to a rather timid and much more socially acceptable view.

For those seeking a “South Park in Space” as it is widely hailed this provides disappointment, as it looks pretty clear that they don’t have the hutzpah to

be anywhere as offensive or in your face as South Park when it comes down to serious issues.

On the other hand, this series will also not be used to espouse the creators own sense of morality a la South Park, at least not for the most part.

All in all this is a somewhat funny episode, but I mark it down points for not having the guts to stick with its original premise.
