I am reviewing the Case of the Exhumed Client, a Sherlock Holmes episode from the boxed set, Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Series 39 Thrilling Episodes. This series was produced by Sheldon Reynolds and filmed in France in the fifties.

Ronald Howard, the son of actor Leslie Howard, stars as Sherlock Holmes, and Marion Crawford stars as Watson.

This episode finds Holmes in serious trouble as he goes up

against a murderer who has been exhuming victims.

Holmes and Watson are invited to a castle, and it is here where Holmes is sure the murderer is to be found.

When another person turns up dead at the castle, Holmes is sure of it.

He takes the room of the deceased, and comes to discover that the candles in the very room have been made to send off ...

      • a poisonous gas.

Luckily for Holmes, Watson saves him in time.

As Holmes gathers everyone up into the room later on, he places real candles in the same room with them and begins to light them.

The murderer springs forward and warns him not to, thus exposing their crime.

This episode is very entertaining and interesting, as it finds Sherlock Holmes in deep peril.

        It has only

slight similarity to Conan Doyle’s story, The Devil’s Foot, in that a dangerous toxin was put into the air by way of flames.

Other than that, there is no connection.

Both actors are superb as usual, but the supporting cast is again embarrassing.

Everyone has to love a murder mystery, however, especially when it takes place in a dark, creepy castle! I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one, so I recommend it highly.
