This is a pure battle game with a strategic turn-based style on it. The story evolves in the medieval Japan, the key figures are the masterful samurai warriors which one has the opportunity of leading into battle here.

The samurai divide themselves in different clans, and which clan you choose is all up to you, it at all goes down to being the ruling clan of a specific japanese region.

      Once your warriors have

been able to win a battle, you move on to the next clan and try to expand your territory even further.

There’s no end to the possibilites here and the game could go on until your clan is the last one surviving.

With each battle your win, your army will increase in numbers and you will also get more advanced technology.

I usually find the turn-based system - which is very similar to how ...

      • the battles went on during the discovery of America for example - rather annoying, but with Shogun: Total War I would actually admit that it works pretty well.

The opponents you face are extremely difficult to defeat at times, but this is a challenge you are keen to assume instead of losing your will to keep playing.

The battles are visually a lot more advanced visually than I’ve seen in other turn-based games.

        The

benefits of this style is that you much easier can calculate your losses and figure out the enemies weaknesses.

A lot more like the issues a real warlord has to deal with.

Games with a more direct action battle system tends to be more based on coincidences, which feels a bit tedious in the end.

Shogun: Total War shows us a new way of playing turn-based and reminds us about why this structure is still on the market.
