I am reviewing Wisteria Lodge, a Sherlock Holmes episode from the boxed set, The Return of Sherlock Holmes, which was produced in 1984 by Granada television. This episode finds Sherlock Holmes hired by a man suspected of murder at a place called Wisteria Lodge.

He was invited as a guest to stay there while he talked of ancient maps with the man at the place.

When the guests wakes, he finds himself completely alone.

He immediately seeks Sherlock HOlmes’ help, and he and Watson return with him to investigate the lodge.

They are joined there by an overbearing, annoying policeman, who tells them that the man who played host to Holmes’ client was found dead.

Later revealed is a plot to overthrow a man who had wronged the host and his ...

      • sister, who was being held captive.

Evidently the man who was holding the host’s siter in question had killed their parents and they wanted revenge.

Holmes’ client was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.

This is another good episode, although it’s not one of my favorites.

The acting is superb all around, but at times this episode seemed a tiny bit slow or

        drawn out.

It is always a pleasure to watch Hardwicke and Brett on screen, however.

I found the fat policeman on the scene to be odious and annoying, but that’s the way his character was written, so we can’t blame the poor actor who portrayed him as such.

I rate this episode at a nine only because I felt it drug on a little bit.

        Otherwise, it was very good.
