I was scared off by Slipknot for a long time, I think because they’re one of those bands that wear masks. Even though I like hard rock, for some reason, masks will make me not

want to listen to a band every time.

But I’m glad I looked beyond the masks after hearing the song “Duality” on the radio because this is an awesome CD.

      The themes are dark ...

      • and cynical, as you might expect from a band that calls its fans “maggots.

” Yet despite the darkness, there is a surprising musicality to the songs.

This isn’t a heavy metal band that just

screams for an hour and calls it a CD.

They expertly mix loud and soft moments, screams, chants, whispers and harmonious singing.

In addition to “Duality,” my favorite songs include “Vermilion” and “Before I Forget.
