“The One” is not scientific research. As it might seem from the description in some reviews, it is a fictional literary work that has mixed several genres: drama, detective, and fantastic thriller.

The work’s idea is original since no one has written such a thing before. We know that DNA can determine kinship and susceptibility to disease. But the author of the book went. Further, he suggests using DNA to find a life partner, the only one that would suit you one hundred percent.

      There

are, of course, nuances like the fact that your half may turn out to be too young or too old, may not pass the test, and not find anyone, well, or will not be born/die yet. But if the test has already seen a DNA pair, then there will be no error. DNA partners are attracted to each other inexplicably and irresistibly.

Five young people decide to take a test to find a DNA pair for themselves. Someone does it for the sake of curiosity, while others, having worn out in past relationships, decide to find one single one. All characters are very different: gender, age, social status.

Everyone has completely different motives that prompted them to take a DNA test. The more interesting is the intrigue. With the arrival of the analysis results, their lives are changing dramatically.

They were waiting for an ordinary woman or an ordinary man in their imagination. The tragedy is that few people thought about this person’s ins and outs. Yes, and it turns ...

out that they knew little about themselves before meeting their DNA pair.

All this is fine, but, like any scientific discovery, its pluses are leveled by minuses. But what if you have already lived most of your life with another person and suddenly it turns out that he or she is not your couple, or your couple has died of the same sex with you, is terminally ill, or is a psychopathic maniac?

The author raises this question in his book.

Engaging manner of storytelling. The author

tells five different stories at the same time. Each one is so bright that you want to return to it as soon as possible to find out how everything continues and how it will end. These stories provide insight into what the discovery of such a gene might lead to.

Each DNA pair’s history has its ending, and all the storylines are complete. The author emphasizes that you should not rely on the program. You need to look for a pair with your feelings, heart, and mind.

LOGAN says :

Good afternoon, esteemed Arnold. The book review you did immediately reminded me of the TV series of the same name. What do you think is better: finding a loved one with the help of scientific methods based on a DNA match or should this be left to chance?

This question worries me greatly because such a great feeling as love can be turned into a mere commodity on the shelf of a science store.
