Perhaps the best English translation for the name of this place is the Transportation Museum. As the name suggests it is a good place for those who love anything related to transportation such as cars, bikes, trains, flights, airports, railway stations, etc. They claim that it is the largest and most complete museum of this kind in Asia and perhaps in the world. And yes, it is much larger than I expected.

For 100.000 Indonesian rupiah (about 7 dollars), you can explore the entire museum which accommodates old cars manufactured in past centuries, non-motorized vehicles including human powered sedans those used to be in China and Europe, racing cars, parade of motorized vehicles enlivened by American animated film characters, and imitation of some famous places in Europe and USA. In the Old Batavia section, it is just like you use a time tunnel to last century. Chinese old stores and Dutch offices decorate a short street. You can learn what they did for a living in that age. I like this spot but it is a pity that all stores and offices are only fake models and therefore you cannot enter. Some spots are pretty similar with their origin, such as in the European section where you can see German and British buildings. It is a pity that the ‘Buckingham Palace’ is not equipped with the proper furniture but red buses and other types of car. But I can see the reason behind this as it is a transportation museum.

I spent at least three hours within the premise and I think it is enough to see all parts of the museum. Please be aware that the operating time of the museum starts at 12 noon. So the best time to visit is in the late afternoon to avoid hot and humid weather. Although there is a free transportation from and to some tourist spots managed by the government, the best way to visit it is by taxi which costs you around 30.000 rupiah from Batu city center.

  • A Chinese store. It looks real from the outside, but you cannot enter. All the other stores and offices in this section are fake ones

  • More than 20 old cars are there in this warehouse. They are real ones but I am not sure whether they work properly

  • Museum Angkut, Indonesia
  • Inside the ‘Buckingham Palace’. It houses motorbikes, old cars, a red bus, and others. The interior, especially the ceiling, is decorated like those in British museums

  • Museum Angkut, Indonesia
  • Parade of motorized vehicles. This parade consisting of six cars, one of them is a Ford Mustang of 4.700 cc, takes place around the Old Batavia until Broadway sections perhaps every one hour

  • The Bronx. It seems to be very untidy in this section. I have not been to the real Bronx so I have no idea whether it is like in this picture

At first I expected that I would visit only a small museum with some uninteresting vehicles on exhibition. But having explored it, I quickly changed my mind that this is the best transportation museum I ever visited. While others limited only for cars, or trains, this museum covers almost all transportation means. The location can be reached about an hour by taxi from Malang Airport.
