My family is real picky about the type of breading use on their protein. Sometimes they like a crispy skin and other times not so much. I have been trying out various brands of crispy chicken mix, and I think I finally found one that everyone likes.

Louisiana Fish Fry Products seasoned crispy chicken mix is a breaded mix I found in my local Walmart. It comes in a bag already preseasoned which is what I liked about the product. The only downside to the product is that once I open the bag then I would have to place any remainder in a zip lock bag to maintain its freshness.

Although the front of the packaging says seasoned crispy chicken batter mix, I actually used the batter for tilapia I was frying for dinner. The product was very simple to use; instead of adding water to the batter, I decided to dip my tilapia in eggs that I had mixed and then I dipped them in the dry batter. Because I could literally smell the seasonings used in the flour, I decided not to create the wet batter and then dip it in the dry mix because I figured the seasonings would overpower the fish making it difficult to enjoy.

Because the protein I used was tilapia it did not take long to fry. I fried the fish for about 6 to 10 minutes. Another thing I did dislike about the mix was how much residue was left in the pain. I took my eyes off my pan for about 1 to 2 minutes, and my kitchen started to fill up with smoke because the residue from the mix was starting to burn. I had to quickly turn off the heat once I cooked all my fish and put the hot pan on a cool burner.

The crispy mix on the fish turned out really well leaving a golden, crispy breading that was perfectly seasoned. I could definitely taste the salt in the breading which made me glad I did not season the fish because the two salts combined would have been too powerful and would have made the fish inedible. Without the additional seasoning on the tilapia the fish was perfect.
The breading was perfect for the protein I was using; I think if I would have followed the double dipping method for creating a wet batter and having a dry batter it would have overpowered the tilapia because it is such a delicate fish. However, for something a little thicker such as chicken I will definitely use the double dipping method because I know the finished breading will not weigh down the chicken.

Overall, if you are looking for perfectly seasoned chicken mix then I highly recommend Louisiana Fish Fry Products seasoned crispy chicken batter mix. Unlike other chicken mixes, this one is actually seasoned well and can be used for any protein. I was thinking about using it for other fried foods such as mushrooms and vegetables. I purchased mine at Walmart so you do not have to go far to buy it. The finished breading is perfectly crispy, and it looks as if you prepared the seasoned mix from scratch.
