Ross is a discount store that I used to shop a lot to find a lot of great clothes and other things at a discount, however, between the store's issue with theft and their adolescent clothing, I hardly shop in there anymore and if I am in the store it is because I saw KitchenAid housewares for dirt cheap.

Growing up I used to look forward to shopping at Ross because I was guaranteed to find a cool outfit or a nice handbag, now that I am older I now realize the reason I liked shopping at Ross as a kid because the clothes sold were and still is for juniors. Ross is similar to stores such as TJ Maxx where the store buys brand names for cheap because the designer or brand want to unload unsold inventory or there are blemishes with the inventory that simply cannot be sold.

When I do find the time to go into Ross I always notice how bare the store is. The store is not jam packed wall to wall with merchandise you would expect from a larger discount chain store. The luggage area is pretty decent and if I am lucky to find a set I like I try to jump on it as soon as I can; however, a lot of the luggage sold does not come in a set but in individual pieces.

The shoes area has gotten a little better over the years especially for men and children. As far as the women's area is concerned, it all depends on preference. I really do not like any of the shoes Ross carries for women even though I have spotted a few Michael Kors shoes. The shoes fall into two categories: too matronly and plain Jane or too wild and crazy.

The bra and underwear section is a crap shot if you ask me. Sometimes I am lucky to find my bra size and other times I am not. I hate how the store carries any brand because I have found really cheap brands in the bra section; by cheap I mean poor quality and the bras are uncomfortable to wear. I have found a few good brands such as Maidenform, but they are few and far between. Although the bras and panties may look as if any woman can wear them, I have found a lot of the bras to cater to juniors or have too much padding. Personally, I prefer not to have my breasts pushed up so high that I am to use my breasts as a chin rest.
The housewares and bedding area and home decor area is really where it is at. I always make the time to search through those three areas because I tend to luck out and find a diamond in the ruff. I have purchased a lot of KitchenAid products in the housewares area as well as nice drinking glass and mason jars. I have also purchased quite a few paintings--some scenic and others nature related such as flowers to put in my room and throughout my house.

Ross also a good selection of bed sets, but I have to look through them carefully because some of the comforters are just comforters by themselves and not the entire bed set. The bath area is also good for buying towels and wash cloths. I do not know how my family go through so many towels and wash cloths but we do, so it is nice to be able to keep an extra stock of them on hand just in case.

The most disappointing area in the store is the women's clothing department. The women's clothing department is split into two sections: juniors and women. The problem for me is not the splitting of the groups, the problem is you do not know where one begins and the other ends. I have found things I have unknowingly liked apparel in the juniors section because I did not know I was in the juniors section until I went to try on the clothes. The women's section is okay but it is so cluttered that I do not even bother going to look for anything. Sometimes it is a hit and sometimes it is a miss, but my patience are way too short to even take a shot in the first place, and some of the women's clothes are so tacky I would not wear them anywhere not even to my own funeral which explains why they are sitting in a discount section. If I can find lounge or workout pants I will buy them, but anything in that area is a no-no and a waste of time.

Ross is not a bad store to shop, but I would not go looking for clothes in there either. The mens and juniors sections are the best stocked when it comes to clothes, and the women's section is the worst. All the best areas to shop is luggage, housewares, home decor, bedding and bath. There is a handbag area but the styles are so limited you would be better off going somewhere else or ordering from Amazon or another online retailer. In terms of what I look for when I go to Ross the good outweighs the bad which is what your shopping experience will be at Ross.
