  • The food itself was a little on the expensive side, a 12 pound bag was $40 at our local pet store but it wasn't overly unreasonable when compared to other premium brands

We have two cats, a male tabby named Jax and a female tuxedo named Cocoa. They are both about 4 years old and mostly in good health, although about two years ago Jax started having gastrointestinal and digestive problems. He stayed active and had an appetite, but was losing an unhealthy amount of weight due to his stomach trouble. We went to vet after vet; at first we were told that it was likely a bacterial infection and were given antibiotics. When that had no effect we were told it was probably a parasite and got

more medicine. Then it was a grain allergy so we started trying different foods.

We tried about half a dozen different medicines, both prescription and holistic, and about three dozen different types of food, all with no improvement to his health. Another vet finally diagnosed him with inflammatory bowel disease and gave us some medicine to keep the inflammation down, but said we ultimately would need to find a food that his stomach could handle. We tried kibble, wet, and raw food as well as different proteins including rabbit, chicken, venison, and seafood before we decided to give Feline Holistic Select a try.

I was really skeptical at first, especially with the word “holistic” in the brand, but we were desperate to find something that worked and this cat food advertises that it has a unique digestive health support system, so we decided to give it a try.

opted to try the duck as it was a protein that we hadn’t tried before.

Our cats absolutely loved the taste. Some of the other foods we had tried they would sniff and then walk away from, or eat a couple bites here and a couple bites there, but when we mixed this new food in their bowls they practically devoured it. Within a week we had completely switched both cats over to eating only Holistic Select, and Jax had gained two pounds. He was still having some digestive trouble but it was clearly starting to get

better. At the end of the second week Jax was up another pound and his irritable bowel disease was completely in check. We were even able to take him off of the anti-inflammatory medicine and he still has not had any remissions.

I am not sure what exactly makes Holistic Select different from other cat foods, but it was practically a miracle food for our cat’s inflammatory bowel disease. I was even able to get the food at a discount by buying it on Amazon, only $29 for the same 12 pound bag we could get at our local pet store.
