  • I think Emma Chase writes the most amazing characters, they're so much fun to read and have so much personality that they completely captures you and make you fall in love with them from the start
  • My ultimately favorite book from her so far is Sustained, the second book from The Legal Briefs series, I loved it so much that I just couldn't wait for Appealed to come out, and I really enjoyed this as well, I can't lie
  • It took a lot of time an effort for Kennedy to realize that they were meant for each other, she was mostly scared because of an experience from the past, but Brent never hesitated, he just kept trying and trying until she had no reason but to trust him and succumb to her feelings for him

I think Emma Chase writes the most amazing characters, they’re so much fun to read and have so much personality that they completely captures you and make you fall in love with them from the start. My ultimately favorite book from her so far is Sustained, the second book from The Legal Briefs series, I loved it so much that I just couldn’t wait for Appealed to come out, and I really enjoyed this as well, I can’t lie.

Appealed is about Brent Mason, a very confident and passionate lawyer, who comes from a very wealthy family. He had an accident as a child that took away his leg, but that doesn’t affect him in the least, he’s super confident and sets high goals in his life, as well as in court. He’s known as a player, but deep down he always remembered that one love that captured his heart in high school. Now that girl is back, but she’s a

full woman who captures Brent’s attention exactly like all those years ago.

Kennedy Randolph is a DC prosecutor who has to face Brent in court. She remembers Brent as the selfish boy who humiliated her in High School, and she’s kinda ready for a little revenge. But everything changes when she suddenly realizes that Brent isn’t exactly who she thought he was, and when he’s determined to break down her walls, she can’t hold her own for very long, succumbing and continuing with that story that ended all too soon when they were kids.

Appealed was a very funny story. Brent is full of life and doesn’t take things too seriously, even though he has a job that requires a lot of attention to detail. He suddenly finds himself facing off in court with her best friend from childhood who comes back on his life completely different from the last time he saw her.

I loved how he just wanted her from the beginning. He didn’t stop chasing her until he showed her how good they could be together. It took a lot of time an effort for Kennedy to realize that they were meant for each other, she was mostly scared because of an experience from the past, but Brent never hesitated, he just kept trying and trying until she had no reason but to trust him and succumb to her feelings for him. Of course, he wasn’t perfect, he was an asshole at some point, but I think it was a very well developed character.

Kennedy was very endearing as well, I just think that she was too focused on everything that happened years ago. I mean, they were both in high school, they were just kids, of course it wasn’t the best experience, I think we can all agreed that High School sucks, but at times I felt like she was too stuck in the past and couldn’t move ...

forward, everything was about some experience they had in school, which was kinda tiring. At the end, I think they succeeded in letting go of the past, especially because they talked and went through some of the misunderstandings that they had back in the day, so in the end I just loved her.

My favorite part from the whole book is the way Emma Chase handled some of the issues a person can have in their life that really marks them, even if they think they’re all moved on from that experience and don’t feel affected by it at all. And I’m not just talking about the High School thing, but they way that Brent’s traumatic accident affected him emotionally. I think she does a great job at not giving so much attention to the physical part, yes, Brent doesn’t have a leg, but there’s never a moment where he feels really sorry for himself or that he hates his missing

leg, and that’s marvelous, but at the same time, we kinda see, thanks to his therapist, how affected he is emotionally. He has problems of attachment because he feels like at any giving moment things can get ripped away from you. The author explains it brilliantly and it made me identify with him from some experiences I’ve had myself.

I think it’s great when a book just entertains you, but it’s amazing when it really leaves you something, and Emma does it in such a subtle way that made me really see her point without it to be completely thrown in my face.

I enjoyed the whole book tremendously, but I particularly LOVED the epilogue where I saw the lives from some of my favorite characters from Sustained in the future. I feel like Emma is the Queen of characterization, her stories are great, but her characters are out of this world and that’s something that not many authors have. Totally recommended!
