Over the years, I've been using detergent dish liquid soap to other bathroom tile cleaners to clean the kitchen tiles from messy grease strains etc. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to remove the stubborn water stains and soon, the tiles took an unpleasant of worn-out shade with dark stains on the surface.

Nowadays, it's not easy to re-tile a home kitchen so I kept a look out for products that might help me out with my problem.

I found Mrs. McKenic Tile & Grout Wonder at a store and decided to try this out.

Upon pouring the product on the tiles, there was a strong almost pine scent (closest I can describe the scent) of the thick liquid. However, as I rule for me with tile cleaners, I prefer I have good ventilation and all the windows of the house are opened so I won't get dizzy cleaning. After I followed the instructions and used a metal wire-mesh scrub pad to agitate the product on the tile because the soft pad (as suggested on the side of the container to use) wasn't working for me, I anticipated some progress.

I chose the corner of our kitchen sink. There was a huge difference seen from one tile on the left and on the right. I was working on the left tile and didn't apply the product on the right tile just for comparison.

The product removed the years of stubborn water stains and oils but I found the whole hard scrubbing a laborious activity. I really had to be creative (ex: workout music in the background) in attacking household chore.

To achieve a degree of clear tile (left) it took me 15 minutes depending on how stubborn the dirt, water stains have clung to the tiles. I don't now if I would want a strong tile remover product because that would mean I better use a face mask to protect myself from inhaling the fumes. This is giving me reasons to ponder how to go about cleaning the tiles without going over budget. Anyway, seeing that there was progress, I kept scrubbing.

I did notice depending on the location, the McKenic can easily clean the tiles. It wasn't spotless white like coming from newly bought tiles, but it was working clean progress. It has to be taken into the account, these kitchen tiles were set for almost 15 years and no renovation or re-tile was done since. So looking at this, I was happy the stains were taken care of. However, the grout posed another problem. Unfortunately, the crew responsible for setting the tiles weren't very consistent so I just had to make the best of it. After I've applied the product on the grout several times and scrubbed hard, the stains on this section of the grout were removed while the rest won't come off. I have no idea if it was due to workmanship or the length of time these stains had contributed to the difficult complete removal of the stains.

This was a soy sauce stain added with oil stains too which were removed by the McKenic Tile & Grout Wonder but like I said above, it took a lot of scrubbing which left me with very tired hands at the end of completing the chore.
The following day, I decided to work on our dirty kitchen area were a lot of laundry was done. This area was proving a definite challenge and the water stains along the grout and on the tiles surface were difficult to remove.

It took almost 30 minutes of scrubbing to get to that progress (left tile against right tile). I did notice like what I've observed when I was in the main kitchen area, there were tiles that the product can removed the stains and in other parts, it was a similar sight above.

All in all, the product was helpful. It was very tiring to scrub against stains though. I don't know if the water composition contributed to it, the type of tile used (our have designs destroyed by the stains), the irregular grout application, or time it provided for the stains to build up caused all of these problematic removal results. I think using this product will be different from one household to another. I was still glad to have found this product since it worked in most of our main kitchen tile area and brightened the space too.
