  • Because in Chicago, it’s considered one of the main local chains that has an established reputation as being a neighborhood favorite—but without the fanfare of more touristy places such as Giordano’s and Gino’s East
  • They aren’t a deep-dish specialty place, but in my opinion they have the best-tasting sauce of any pizza place in St. Paul
  • It’s definitely a mom-and-pop run facility, and I wouldn’t recommend the place for a romantic date or fancy dinner celebration, but the service is good and the staff friendly, and you’ll enjoy the experience if you’re simply looking for a good and unique pizza place

You wouldn’t think that this pizza place—located in an old strip mall in Roseville, MN—would be anything special, but it’s actually a well-known Chicago pizza chain (mostly on Chicago’s South-Side), and is the only store located anywhere in Minnesota.

After spending eight years living in Chicago, I was shocked to discover this gem smack dab in the northern suburbs, relatively unknown among the local Minnesotans. Because in Chicago, it’s considered one of the main local chains that has an established reputation as being a neighborhood favorite—but without the fanfare of more touristy places such as Giordano’s and Gino’s East.

Its strip mall location is probably its biggest

drawback. The run-down building is also home to a tobacco shop, a Chinese take-out place, and some other storefronts that seem to be just barely making it by. But at least there’s tons of parking.

Once you enter Aurelio’s you quickly realize that this place was built a while back, and the seating consists of a long narrow hallway of booths that are vintage wooden, with seventies style fabric covering the seats. Eventually, the hallways ends with a small community room filled with additional tables for group seating.

On the tables are cards full of really old trivia that is now outdated, but if you like trivia you’ll be amazed by how hard it is—most of the answers are extremely hard , and the information is all dated from the fifties, sixties, seventies, and eighties.

The ambiance isn’t great, with some cheesy pictures of Italian nature dotting the walls, along with old photos of family or friends who are posing in the restaurant lobby—but they add to the charm of the place, making it seem like your typical neighborhood pizza place in Chicago.

Aurelio’s pizza is the closest thing you can think of to homemade pizza. It takes anywhere up to 45 minutes for your pizza to get made, and it’s primarily a thin-crust ...

sauce-based pie. They aren’t a deep-dish specialty place, but in my opinion they have the best-tasting sauce of any pizza place in St. Paul. It’s a unique taste and you won’t find anything like it anywhere else in Minnesota.

It’s also expensive—as far as pizzas go—so be prepared to shell out between $20-$30 for a pizza serving 2-3 people. They also serve beer and drinks, and offer a full menu of other pastas and Italian-esque food, but you should really just stick to the pizzas.

I have no idea how such a well-known place from Chicago managed to land it’s only Minnesota location in this little-known spot, but

it’s worth visiting if you live in the area. At the very least, order it for take-out.

Another unique thing about this Restaurant is their hours. For those unfamiliar with their regular schedule, they are routinely closed on Mondays and have very limited hours on the weekend, which throws many customers off because they don’t have the normal hours that a pizza place should have.

It’s definitely a mom-and-pop run facility, and I wouldn’t recommend the place for a romantic date or fancy dinner celebration, but the service is good and the staff friendly, and you’ll enjoy the experience if you’re simply looking for a good and unique pizza place.
