  • I thought maybe the pumpkin spice filling would be enough to make me a fan, but unlike the Hostess Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes, these autumn-inspired Twinkies fall relatively flat and simply don't impress much
  • On top of that, the sponge cake portion of the Twinkie is unchanged from that of other Twinkie varieties, so the pumpkin spice flavored filling is the only thing that differentiates this flavor of Twinkies from the others, and while that wouldn't be an issue if the pumpkin spice creme filling boasted an outstanding flavor, it doesn't, and thus it's not enough to make this flavor of Twinkies noteworthy
  • Maybe if the sponge cake portion had been treated with a robust mixture of spices that would compliment the pumpkin spice creme filling, such as nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger, then I would have enjoyed this special variety of Twinkies more and considered them to be more memorable, but that didn't happen, so I'm left with a box that's taking me a while to work through as they simply aren't good enough for me to crave, but according to popular legend, which isn't true by the way, Twinkies have a shelf life of forever, so I guess it doesn't matter how long it takes me to finish them off
  • As usual, Hostess delivers freshness with its snack cakes and products in general, so the box I bought provided me with Twinkies that were soft and fresh tasting, so that's definitely a point in Hostess' favor
  • Maybe I just don't love Twinkies enough to enjoy these as much as others are or perhaps I've just been spoiled by all the various pumpkin-flavored foods out there, a lot of which simply taste better and are more memorable than these pumpkin spice Twinkies are, but I won't be disappointed when the box I have is finished because that will mean I won't have any more that I need to eat

While a vast majority of people in America would likely be able to identify what a Twinkie is, I suspect quite a few of these people would be surprised to learn that the Twinkie is fast approaching its one-hundred year milestone. In just fifteen years from now, the Twinkie will turn one hundred, and in the many years that the Twinkie have been satisfying snack cake lovers, a variety of flavors have been introduced, some of which have caught on, while a few others had only a short run before being tossed away due to not hitting the spot in the stomachs of snack cake consumers. Time will tell if Hostess’ newest addition to the Twinkie family, the pumpkin spice Twinkie, will win enough hearts to return next autumn, but for now, Hostess Limited Edition Pumpkin Spice Twinkies are available for purchase at one dollar and fifty cents a box; which contains ten of the golden sponge cakes infused with pumpkin spice flavor.

As far as my own heart is concerned, the pumpkin spice Twinkies failed to make me fall in love with the spongy snack

cake. Now, granted, I was never really in love with Twinkies in the first place, regardless of flavor, but I very occasionally purchase a box when I have a minor craving for them. Usually though, I end up struggling to finish the box as the craving quickly goes away after having a few. I thought maybe the pumpkin spice filling would be enough to make me a fan, but unlike the Hostess Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes, these autumn-inspired Twinkies fall relatively flat and simply don’t impress much. I don’t feel as if Hostess invested as much effort into the pumpkin spice Twinkies as the company did with the pumpkin spice cupcakes, which is unfortunate considering how festive the cupcakes looked and how good they tasted. The cupcakes made me think of autumn with how they were decorated and how rich in pumpkin flavor they were, but the Twinkies did not.

These special limited edition Twinkies look like most other varieties of Twinkies and anyone that’s ever eaten a Twinkie won’t be in for much of a surprise - it’s just your standard Twinkie, except in place of

the exceedingly rich vanilla creme filling is a pumpkin spice creme, which looks and slightly tastes like the usual vanilla creme, so I’m thinking Hostess simply added some pumpkin spice flavoring to the vanilla creme and called it a day. The result, not surprisingly, is nothing spectacular. While yes, the pumpkin spice Twinkies do have a pumpkin taste to them, it’s nothing particularly special. There is certainly a decent amount of creme that extends from practically one end of the Twinkie to the other, but while the creme has an unmistakable pumpkin taste to it, it’s more of a sugary sweet taste than it is a natural, deep pumpkin flavor with spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon enriching it. On top of that, the sponge cake portion of the Twinkie is unchanged from that of other Twinkie varieties, so the pumpkin spice flavored filling is the only thing that differentiates this flavor of Twinkies from the others, and while that wouldn’t be an issue if the pumpkin spice creme filling boasted an outstanding flavor, it doesn’t, and thus it’s not enough to make this flavor of ...

      Twinkies noteworthy.

What I might have done differently with these Twinkies is made the sponge cake portion of them pumpkin flavored. I’m not sure if that would result in an overpowering amount of pumpkin flavor, but I just feel that adding pumpkin spice flavor alone to the creme filling and doing nothing else didn’t go far enough to make these Twinkies worth picking up over all the other pumpkin-flavored foods out now. Maybe if the sponge cake portion had been treated with a robust mixture of spices that would compliment the pumpkin spice creme filling, such as nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger, then I would have enjoyed this special variety of Twinkies more and considered them to be more memorable, but that didn’t happen, so I’m left with a box that’s taking me a while to work through as they simply aren’t good enough for me to crave, but according to popular legend, which isn’t true by the way, Twinkies have a shelf life of forever, so I guess it doesn’t matter how long it takes me to finish them off!

For those reading this that enjoy Twinkies and

also like pumpkin, then you’ll probably like these pumpkin spice Twinkies as well. As usual, Hostess delivers freshness with its snack cakes and products in general, so the box I bought provided me with Twinkies that were soft and fresh tasting, so that’s definitely a point in Hostess’ favor. Maybe I just don’t love Twinkies enough to enjoy these as much as others are or perhaps I’ve just been spoiled by all the various pumpkin-flavored foods out there, a lot of which simply taste better and are more memorable than these pumpkin spice Twinkies are, but I won’t be disappointed when the box I have is finished because that will mean I won’t have any more that I need to eat. Again, they aren’t terrible, but they’re just too average for me to spend money on a second time. Anyone that likes Twinkies and likes pumpkin as well may want to give a box a try just to see if there is enough pumpkin flavor to delight the taste buds, but for me, personally, these Twinkies came up short of being a seasonal treat to look forward to.

I love Twinkies, the regular and the pumpkin spice too. I have always loved hostess cakes. My mom always bought hostess when I was a kid. I never wanted any other treat, but when I saw the new pumpkin twinkies I new I had to have some of them. I bought myself 3 boxes to eat. I have to admit hostess still has it. I love my new twinkies they are the best yet. I think I will always buy them, I hope they don’t stop making my new favorite twinkies.

I’m happy that you enjoyed them and felt that the pumpkin spice filling was good. For me, I just didn’t think the pumpkin spice filling had enough quality flavor to make these Twinkies enjoyable enough to buy again. As someone that doesn’t eat Twinkies that regularly or enjoy them as much as some others, it’s possible that resulted in me not getting as much enjoyment out of them as others like you have.
