The outer part of my friend's Samsung s4 was badly damaged with chips and cracks. I replaced the mid-frame with this one, and it now has a brand new look. FYI, this is the Samsung branded part. When you place it next to the old part, it's an exact match.

As stated before this is the Samsung part. However, I purchased via Amazon, instead of purchasing it directly from Samsung. It was priced at $8. It essentially made the phone look new again, so the price wasn't too bad.

Overall, it took about 30 minutes to replace the housing. I started out by removing the back cover, and then I took out the battery. As shown in the photo, there are nine screws that you'll have to remove from the frame. This photo was once all the screws were out. There are 5 on the frame itself, and 4 that hold that plastic microphone cover in place. This plastic piece has to be removed to disconnect the frame so I just removed them all at once.

This plastic microphone assembly was fairly difficult to get off-after removing the screws. I got it off by pulling it upwards from the top at an angle. You can't get the bottom end off until you remove the top end.

Once the screws were removed, there were several clamps that held the frame in place. To remove it, I used a plastic razor, but there are probably several other tools that you can use. I inserted the razor into the seam between the frame and the screen. I then worked it around the entire phone to loosen all the clamps. There were some tough parts, so I did have to pull up on the razor a bit to get some of the clamps loose. You should be diligent while doing this because the plastic around the screen is extremely fragile, and you don't want to break this.

The inside of the battery compartment at the top also has a clamp. If you have difficulty pulling the frame off, you should check to be sure this is loose. To get it off I inserted the razor under the tab, pulled it back, and then lifted it off.
This is the new frame once I got it clamped on. I worked with it for a while, and for me it was less difficult to insert the top part, and then work down the sides, before clamping the bottom end on. I then put all the screws back on, and put the battery back in.

Altogether, I would give the part an A+! It took a bit of time to get it installed, but once I got it replaced, it's been awesome!
