I have a 2005 Altima, and I was told that the valve cover was leaking oil- it needed to be replaced. Instead of paying a mechanic, I purchased this replacement kit to install it myself. I purchased this from Amazon, and I paid $114. I went with Amazon because it was a bit cheaper than purchasing it from any local parts store.

FYI, this specific part is compatible with 2002-2006 Nissan Altimas. It also came with the gasket as an add-on which is a plus. It's not the oem Nissan part, but it's made of the same material, the bolt pattern is a match, and it mounts securely onto the engine.

The most difficult task was to detach the old valve cover from the engine. However, there are a few things that have to be disconnected before removing the valve cover bolts. You don't necessarily have to remove your spark plugs, but I did because I replaced them also while doing the valve cover. However, you will have to remove all four spark plug coils. You will need a 10mm socket wrench to remove them because they're bolted on. Once you remove the bolt you have to lift them out of the spark plug holes as shown in the photo. You don't have to be I also disconnected the coils from the harness to remove them away from the valve cover.

There is also a vacuum hose that goes from the back of the valve cover to the intake manifold. With the valve cover mounted it's a bit difficult to access the hose so I disconnected it from the intake end. I had to take off 2 10mm bolts.

You'll have to remove a total of 10 bolts to remove the valve cover from the engine. There are four at the front-as shown in the photo, one on each side, and four on the back. The back bolts were more difficult because the manifold's in the way a bit, but I would suggest using a socket extension, and you can probably get them. Unfortunately the cover doesn't just come off once the bolts are removed. It's essentially stuck to the engine and I had to use a pry tool to get it to pop off. I inserted the tool from the front, and then worked it out towards the sides. It'll eventually come of but it takes a bit of time.

Once I removed the valve cover there was oil and other debris on that area that the valve cover mounts to. I used a towel to clean this area so that there was nothing interfering with the valve cover's seal. You also shouldn't let any debris fall into the engine while you have the valve cover removed.

The replacement part does come with a sealant/gasket. You have to put this on the valve cover before mounting it onto the engine. This picture shows you the sealant. You have to stick it around the outer part of the valve cover as shown. Once I put it on the valve cover, I immediately mounted the valve cover onto the engine because the sealant also has to stick to the engine.
This is the valve cover once it's bolted on. FYI, I used the old oil cap and bolts. You should make sure all bolts are tight to prevent any leaks.

Overall the replacement part has been excellent! Once I got it installed the previous oil leak was sealed. It's a durable, high-quality part, I give it an A+!
