  • It doesn't get much more convenient and simple than that, although you are partially paying for the simplicity and ease, as one box of two hot dogs costs over four dollars

Chili and melted cheese have been common hot dog toppings for decades. While the combination of the two may not be as popular as say ketchup, mustard or relish, there are plenty of people out there, including myself, that enjoy chili and cheese on a hot dog. It may make for a messy meal, but having those two toppings on a hot dog sure make a difference in the taste department! Admittedly, when having something like this at home, a bit more preparation is required as chili and cheese can’t just be squeezed out of a bottle like ketchup or mustard.

      This frozen

product sold under the Great Value brand at Walmart makes it easier and quicker than having to make a hot dog yourself, either make your own chili or open up a can, and melt some cheese down. In one box comes two hot dogs, each with chili and cheese already on as toppings. All a person has to do is open one end of the packaging that encases on of the hot dogs, for venting purposes, and place it in the microwave for a little over a minute to heat up. The hot dogs themselves are average in size and thickness. They certainly aren’t at all comparable to jumbos, but more akin to what you would find in a regular eight pack. Out of the microwave, they come reasonably tender. The hot dog buns, on ...

the other hand, aren’t as soft as non-frozen buns and can be tough along certain points. There seems to be more chili than cheese on the hot dogs and the chili is definitely the more prominent flavor of the two, so a better balance of the two would have been nice. The chili doesn’t strike me as being at all hot or spicy, and the cheese is just barely noticeable, but still contributes some cheddar taste.

These frozen hot dogs are good for a quick meal, although one hot dog by itself won’t be very filling. They could certainly be better at the buns

they come in are a bit disappointing along the edges and here and there and the cheddar cheese topping is really overshadowed by the chili. Plus, well over four dollars for two hot dogs with some chili and cheese topping seems a bit high. All in all though, they aren’t actually too bad for a store brand item, especially since I don’t see a comparable name brand item on the frozen food aisle shelves, so at least at the Walmart stores I hope at, this is a unique product. I’m satisfied with them, although not overly satisfied, but satisfied enough to still buy them on occasion.
