Shinsyu-ichi Miko Brand Instant Miso Soup (with Tofu)

If you’re new to Japanese Cuisine, you may find yourself asking like I once did, “What the heck is miso?”

Miso is millet, or a simple paste, mixed with other ingredients, primary of which is soy. Miso has been around for centuries and is one of those “meat-and-potatoes” kinds of simple food basics of Japanese cuisine. It’s a brothy soup, sometimes served alongside something else, but can certainly be enjoyed all on its own, and often is in Japan. You could say is as ubiquitous as Chicken and Stars is in the West. (Who doesn’t love Chicken and Stars? I love Chicken and Stars. Miso is the Japanese Chicken and Stars!)

      Oh yeah, and

before we go any further here, don’t worry, it’s not raw food!

So, what does Shinsyu-ichi’s Instant Miso come with? Eight servings in total; eight miso packs, with eight “fixings” packs to go with each. (Fixings= tofu chunks with bits of seaweed flake and green onion.) They come in separate “bandoleer strips” of each kind of pack. You can tell them apart by looking for the squishy, shinier one, that’s the miso.

On the positive side, this instant miso is fairly easy to prepare. If you know how to boil water and make your standard Western-style instant “cups-of-soup” you’re used to in a microwave, you can handle miso. From start-to-finish, you can have a cup

of the miso soup ready in less than 15 minutes. Because it more broth than anything else, you can just drink it (I just use a soup cup with a handle and gulp it down) though you might want to also grab a spoon (or if you’re feeling “authentic” chopsticks) for the last mouthfuls where most of the tofu and seaweed are located. It’s a quick and easy meal, that has a smoother flavor and seems to go down easier than other types of Asian-inspired instant soups in my opinion (like ramen, for example.) In other words, you won’t feel like you just drank an entire salt lick, or that you shot your ...

blood pressure through the roof, just to get a quick work lunch.

On the downside, many Western people aren’t used to miso (heck, most people I know can’t even get past not knowing what it is!) Also, because it’s made with soy, it is still a salty flavor (though you can dilute it as much as you want with water, like I do.) Also, for those who are used to soups like instant ramen, they may find the miso doesn’t have enough to it, that they’re just “drinking their lunch” rather than eating it. And although it’s cheaper than a going out for a fast food value meal, many still might not find it an appealing enough (or especially filling enough) alternative to their usual lunchtime faire, and it’s not as dirt-cheap as the more common ramen packs, but you do get a higher quality soup for the money with miso.

Bottom line, at around $3.50-6.00 (depending on where you buy it, online, your local grocer, or the Bed Bath And Beyond food aisle where I found mine) it’s a great value in my opinion because you get twice the miso packs with this brand for roughly the same price as another certain California-based miso brand which only gives you three for the same price.)

Great Miso for a decent price? Yeap, I’d say that’ a win-win all-around!

Shinsyu-ichi Miko Brand Miso Soup has been one of my favorite Miso Brands throughout my life. Growing up eating lots of this brand of Miso Soup, has not only provided me with healthy ingredients, but as a great Breakfast meal first thing in the morning over Rice.
The great thing with Miso Soup is that it is quick, very tasty, filling, satisfying and simply healthy. I Love when you are getting all great stuff in one. It will start your day filled with satisfaction and off to a great start with energy Sometimes I have 8 hour day rehearsals, very active throughout the day and still fills my appetite for several hours. You dont get that feeling that you are still hungry.
Shinsyu-ichi Miko Miso Brand is one of the Top of the Line Brands that most consumers like eating, and at a pretty low coast. Unlike some other Miso Brands, Shinsyu-ichi Brand is less salty and the soybean tastes really great and fresh.
Typically, lots of Japanese foods consist of healthy natural ingredients that satisfy your hunger for hours at a time. The best part of Japanese foods are, that you can eat a lot of portions of these kinds of foods and not gain much weight. Weight loss is more common for those that eat Japanese foods consistently.
This Miso Soup is one of Japanese highly acclaimed foods, considered as a Microbiotic Food (diet). It is a simple soup, eaten as a meal, snack, and on a daily basis which would less likely to harm your health. If anything, it helps lose weight and fills your apetite.
Using foods like Tofu, sliced green onion, Wakame (Seaweed), shitake Mushrooms, kabocha (pumpkin), are great foods to put in the Miso for boil and create a happy, healthy, sustaining meal over rice Mnay vegetables also accomodate with the Miso Soup. Shinsyu-ichi Miko Brand Miso Soup is great for any Meal, Morning, Lunch or Dinner, or a great inbetween daily snack to keep you healthy, satisfied, strong, quick, energized and ready to go Even kids Love it too
