Incheon international airport in South Korea is well connected to the rest of the country. One of the transportation means goes to and comes from Incheon is limousine buses. The positive points of the bus compared to trains are that the former is more cost effective, and has more frequent interval of departure. These advantages apply when you take the bus for longer distance (such as to Busan, Gwangju etc.

, but certainly not to Seoul). If your destination is Seoul, taking “AREX” airport railroad (subway) is much more recommended.

      Last September I went to

Daejeon (a city located about 220 km from Incheon to the southeast) for an international conference.

I was advised to purchase a bus ticket at exit 9D on the arrival hall. There are actually two types of bus. They are deluxe ones which cost you 23,100 won (about 22 dollars) and standard ones which cost you only 20,600 won.

Apart from the departure interval, I can hardly distinguish between the two of them. Whilst standard buses depart only five times a day (8:00, 9:40, 13:20, 18:30, and 19:30), the deluxe ones depart 63 times a day every 10 to 20 minutes. It is very obvious that the chance to take a standard bus is very slim.

The travel time is roughly three hours depending on traffic condition. Bring your own food and water as they do not provide anything to eat or drink in the bus. Indeed the bus stops on the way to let hungry or thirsty passengers buy cakes, candy, soft drink or even meal, the location’s name is Cheonan Samgeori.

Unfortunately, if you stop there early in the morning or late at night ...

then many stores close. Needless to say that the bus fare for night service (including early morning ones) is even higher. In Daejeon the bus stops at three locations.

They are a building ex-Lotte hotel (northwest), Government Complex (north), and the Bus Terminal (northeast). You have to know where exactly you want to alight as the driver does not speak any English.

Large luggage must be stored in a compartment beneath the bus that is accessible from outside.

As I came early to the bus terminal, I put my suitcase before other passengers did.

As a result, when the bus arrived at the destination, I could not easily take my suitcase as it was very deep pushed by many other passengers’ luggage. Fortunately a young nice passenger was willing to creep into the compartment to take mine.

As for the bus tickets, there is no problem when purchasing the tickets for the bus from Incheon to any destination, but it is suggested to purchase the tickets for Incheon one day in advance (at no extra cost for booking fee) particularly for early morning bus so as not to miss the check-in time.
