  • To my knowledge and experience, it's probably one of the only establishments in Indy with a cafe-like atmosphere that also sells alcoholic beverages
  • On the inside they have these little gold lamps on every table that gracefully light up the place in the evening and at night, which in my opinion, makes it a very suitable place to go even on a date
  • What I do is just eat before going so that there’s no temptation of getting food or appetizers from the menu and being disappointed after

A coffee, beer and wine bar……what more could you ask for?

The Thirsty Scholar is a local pub, located in Downtown Indy on the corner of 16th and Pennsylvania. To my knowledge and experience, it’s probably one of the only establishments in Indy with a cafe-like atmosphere that also sells alcoholic beverages. The first time I went there was about a month ago. I needed to work on some deadlines I had brought home from work and wanted to spare myself the distractions that lay wait in my apartment. I

more or less stumbled upon this bar, which is walking distance from where I live; and now I’ve been going there faithfully almost every weekend.

I absolutely love this place. The atmosphere is so comfortable, very fitting for college students and introverts (if you identify as one). It’s not crowded, loud or disruptive in anyway. There’s free WiFi, so it’s the perfect spot to get work, studying or even some recreational reading done. Whenever I go to a restaurant, café or bar by myself to either read or do some work, there’s always this accompanying feeling of embarrassment or awkwardness from dining alone. I never feel that way when I’m at Thirsty Scholar, regardless of what I’m doing there. There’s also a great patio area right in front of the building and you can choose to sit outside, which can add a serene touch to the experience. There’s just something so charming about the place as a whole. On the inside they have these little gold lamps on every table that gracefully light up the place in the ...

evening and at night, which in my opinion, makes it a very suitable place to go even on a date.

Now although it is a really great place to go to study or work, I would highly suggest that you don’t eat here. The food isn’t terrible but it’s not very good either. It’s a little on the bland side and just isn’t worth spending any money on. I know, I know……food is a biggie. But you can’t have everything you want. That’s life. But I wouldn’t let that

stop you from at least checking the place out, because it a really great place. What I do is just eat before going so that there’s no temptation of getting food or appetizers from the menu and being disappointed after. However, even though the appetizers and sandwiches may not be that tasty, they do have a selection of cookies, cupcakes and brownies that they buy from a bakery two doors down that are to DIE for! Best cookies I’ve ever tasted in my life, but that’s another story for another review.
