  • Tom is now on a mission to be the best Man of Honor he can be, that way Hannah will see that he is the right man for her, even though she is already engaged to another man
  • The basketball sequence I thought was one of the funniest moments of the entire movie
  • None of the dark colors in this movie has any notable problems, which can be a problem with some movies that seem rushed on blu-ray
  • Some of the city scenery looks real nice and Scotland looks amazing in this high definition format
  • Stick with the DVD version if you need to own this one, but I recommend renting this before you purchase it honestly

When was the last time you wanted to watch a movie about a man and woman that love each other and they don’t know it? Most likely you have seen movies like this before and Made of Honor doesn’t hide the fact that certain sequences are identical. Even with a lot of similarities is there some hope for Made of Honor?

Tom Bailey (Patrick Dempsey) is best friends with Hannah (Michelle Monaghan). For ten years these two have done everything together and they know almost everything about each other. When Hannah goes away on a trip she comes back with a huge surprise. She has met another guy and Tom is devastated because he just released that he does have feelings for Hannah.

Hannah gives Tom the news that he is going to be the Maid of Honor, a position that usually goes to a female when it is on the bride’s side. Tom is now on a mission to be the best Man of Honor he can be, that way Hannah will see that

he is the right man for her, even though she is already engaged to another man.

Romantic comedies about weddings tend to be the same after awhile. Either the main couple is already getting married and crazy things happen or one individual is going after another and crazy things happen. Regardless crazy things happen and in Made of Honor these crazy things are not always funny. I couldn’t help but notice a few occasions that would have been much better if Patrick Dempsey wasn’t in it. Dempsey is known for his role as Dr. Derek Shepherd on Grey’s Anatomy. How does this role make him funny? Ok he did have one or two funny parts in Enchanted, but that is not enough to put him in this role. All I am trying to say is a better male actor could have been chosen, Dempsey is not ready to be a leading man in any sort of comedy movie.

Michelle Monaghan on the other hand is a better choice for this movie though I can’t say she is that funny. Her career so far does at least expand a wide range of genres. Putting her as the leading lady in a romantic comedy seems to make more sense but then again she is trying to hold onto Patrick Dempsey’s tailcoats for some jokes. This movie feels like Dumb and Dumber sometimes and I mean that in a way where the actors don’t work well together, they feel like big dumbies.

The rest of the cast in this movie does do a fairly decent job at overshadowing the two big stars. Kevin McKidd plays the man who is the groom. McKidd might not have the most screen time in the movie (pretty weird, huh) but when he is around he was doing something to make me laugh. The basketball sequence I thought was one of the funniest moments of the entire movie. For some reason a foreigner calling basketball a woman’s sport is just funny.

Made of Honor is presented in a 1080p widescreen format. The image is crisp and clean, all ...

of the small details in this movie are defiantly shinning thanks to blu-ray. None of the dark colors in this movie has any notable problems, which can be a problem with some movies that seem rushed on blu-ray. Some of the city scenery looks real nice and Scotland looks amazing in this high definition format.

The sound in this movie was good for a blu-ray release. What you have to keep in consideration is the fact that this is a romantic comedy what can you really expect? There are really no scenes that show off the sound quality, but if you were to compare this to the DVD then you will notice a difference.

There are some extras on this disc that might only please fans of the movie. All of the deleted scenes seem kind of pointless. The same thing goes for the commentary track that features the films director Paul Weiland. I felt real sad listening to this track because he is the only one talking and he just sounds upset at times.

Would it have been hard to get the movies to big stars to talk in the commentary?

Finally the last worthwhile extra is the BD Live content. On the movies release I was not able to access this. I tried ten times and each time the loading bar would freeze up at the half way mark. Hell I was even lucky to get to that point, sometimes I was treated to a black screen and that it seem like my Playstation 3 broke. This is not something you want to happen on a movies release, it just looks bad.

Made of Honor is one of those movies that you will watch once and put away. There is nothing too original in here, even the funny Scottish guy has been used in romantic comedies before. This disc is also lacking any real good extras and the BD Live content not working was the final straw for me. Stick with the DVD version if you need to own this one, but I recommend renting this before you purchase it honestly.
