  • I also enjoyed when Jay Chou would fight, he is a talented martial artist
  • A few interesting tidbits were thrown into the mix, like how the movie had a ton of changes with the staff and people walking off the set
  • To finish off the rest of the extras you have a boring gag reel, a featurette with Gondry giving his approach to the movie, and a 10 minute long, waste of time extra that explains the writing process they took for this pile of crap

Who is to blame for the Green Hornet movie? Can we blame director Michel Gondry for coming back to the project after he rejected it back in 1997? Or can we blame all of the countless delays that start with writers bailing out to simple crew members? Maybe we can blame Sony for letting Seth Rogen be the leading man and having the power to help rewrite the final script for the movie? All of these reasons are to blame for this horrible movie.

The Green Hornet is based off of the comic books, television show, and the radio show from the days your parents were just getting ready to go to school for the first time (maybe not if your parents made a mistake at a young age, in that case your parents were watching the Thundercats). Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) is the playboy son of James Reid (Tom Wilkinson), a newspaper mogul who writes stories about the crime in the city they live in, all the time I should add. James is found dead at the Reid compound due to a hornet sting.

Britt is left with his father’s newspaper empire, but only seems to care about his morning coffee

tasting like shit and not having the cream look like a leaf. This leads Britt into finding about Kato (Jay Chou), who he re-hires after a night full of firing his father’s compound staff. The two find something they share in common and soon after that they fight crime in the city, with the man behind the crime sprees being Chudnofsky (Christoph Waltz).

The movie’s plot is simple and it may have been written by retards that know nothing about action movies or comedy films. Oh wait retards did work on the script. Any way the movie is pretty much broken up into three parts. James Reid dying, Kato and Britt being best friends in the world, and then Kato and Britt fighting evil. There is nothing to this movie at all, it is so poorly written and just dreadful to watch.

There were so many characters left out of the movie too that were supposed to play a big role, but they ended up being supporting characters. Cameron Diaz is in the movie and for some reason I forgot she was in it after the 10 minutes she was in it at the middle because only at the end does she really matter again. How about the mayor of the city? Yeah if you watch the movie you’ll get pretty pissed off because how he is just throw in the movie, out of the blue, and then supposed to be a leading person is mind blowing.

What made up for this dismal script were the special effects. Anytime 3D was used it was for a cheap pop, but it was neat at least. I also enjoyed when Jay Chou would fight, he is a talented martial artist. Wish I could say something nice about Seth Rogen but that would take me way too long and the movie was pretty much 2 hours. What does that say about Rogen as an actor?

Sony delivers the movie in an AVC-encoded 2.40:1 high definition presentation that looks better than one would imagine. Most of the time the movie takes place at night and I didn’t notice any grain on the screen, everything was solid. Daytime shots were just as good, full of detail and vibrant colors. This is one nice looking blu-ray.

The sound is done in a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround. Just like the picture I have nothing really bad to say about the sound.

All of the fight sequences can be heard from the smallest sounds. I wasn’t too overly excited about the mainstream music being thrown into the mix (didn’t fit the film I thought), but it sounds great at least.

As for the extras I really didn’t care to watch them, but hey I did it. The commentary track with Rogen, Gondry, Goldberg, and the film’s producer (Neal Moritz), is just one big track on how wonderful the movie is and one of the men saying “I can’t believe we got away with that”, every so often. A few interesting tidbits were thrown into the mix, like how the movie had a ton of changes with the staff and people walking off the set. This one is only for fans of the movie really.

There are some deleted scenes here, but do you really want to watch almost an extra 30 minutes of this film? To finish off the rest of the extras you have a boring gag reel, a featurette with Gondry giving his approach to the movie, and a 10 minute long, waste of time extra that explains the writing process they took for this pile of crap. I do have to

give Sony credit for these extras… I forgot about the stunt featurette, something about the cars and Kato, and finally a 14 minute extra on blowing things up.

I had no interest in ever seeing this movie again. The Green Hornet is a poorly written movie that will most likely make one fall asleep within minutes. Seth Rogen fails at acting in this movie and he fails at giving a hand with the writing process for the movie. There really is no reason for this kind of crap to be released so make sure to pass on this at all costs.

      Rating Breakdown.

      Movie: 2 out of 10.

+ Jay Chou’s fight scenes are decent.

      - Just plain old awful.

      Picture: 10 out of 10.

+ Sony did a nice job by making this movie look good, only in the picture category.

      Audio: 10 out of 10.

+ No problems with the sound, maybe just the fact that we have to hear Seth Rogen.

      Extras: 6 out of 10.

+ Lots of extras for fans of this movie.

      - All of the extras are boring and a waste of time.
