A couple of days ago I had the pleasure to watch again the remake of the 1985 film “Fright Night” , another remake of an old movie with Colin Farrell in one of the main roles. I liked it as much as the first time and let me tell you why. Charlie Brewster is the usual kid living with his mother in the suburbs of Las Vegas. He has a beautiful girlfriend and his biggest problems are that his bike won’t start and that he is arguing with his former best friend Ed. Ed is convinced that the new neighbor of Charlie, Jerry, is a vampire responsible for the mysterious disappearances in the area. Charlie thinks he’s crazy and has stopped talking to him. When Ed vanishes, however, Charlie starts to watch Jerry more carefully - and begins to understand that

maybe Ed is not as crazy as he thought.

From the very first moments, in which echoes the sounds of thunder and are heard the notes of the organ, it is clear that we can expect to encounter not just any vampire. It is not the twinkling sensitive and benevolent vampires of your dreams - a ruthless , cruel and monstrous vampire of your nightmares. Rather old-fashioned vampires at that - no reflections, they can not enter your home without permission and a stake in the heart is enough to kill them. It sounds pretty simple - as Charlie quickly realizes , however , nothing is easy with Jerry . With centuries of experience and superhuman strength , stamina and skill , Jerry is a real killing machine . In the role is the phenomenal Colin Farrell. Every gesture , every line

, every breath is so overacted that many other actors would be comical playing it, but I think that Farrell was able to do a menacing and memorable performance. Indeed a cult villain who can do something as simple as biting an apple look scary.

I think that a film can not rely only on the villain, however, and in the role of Charley Brewster is Anton Yelchin, a promising young actor , better known to viewers as Kyle Reese from Terminator: Salvation or the supporting role in the latest Star Trek movie. The young man has a promising career ahead of him and seing this movie it is evident to me why. Yelchin manages to recreate the strengths, but also the determination and will of Charlie, who must protect his mother and girlfriend Amy from Jerry. He will not be alone ...

, however - he turns to Peter Vincent, a magician with a show in Vegas , who is a big expert on vampires, played by the fantastic David Tennant. For nearly 15 minutes of total screen time, Tennant makes a lasting impression as the alcoholic wreck , which represents the once great Peter Vincent - which does not mean that his spark has extinguished.

I think that visually the film is at a strong level. At times it shows that some scenes were shot in a certain way just because of the 3D, which is unnecessary, and the computer effects are not always as impressive , but these are nothing more than minor problems in an otherwise very stylish look. The various forms through which the vampires go also deserve recognition. They are monstrous without being too ugly. I think that “Fright

Night” is not the bloodiest movie, but I would not call the quantity of blood spilled to be less.

I would also not say it was the most frightening movie too - this is a film that relies more on atmosphere and tension. It kept me on the edge in some moments, but I did not jump in fear at all. I also felt that there was more than enough action and humor, but not so much that the whole thing would look like a farce. Ultimately, I think the remake manages to retell in a convincing and engaging manner the story of the original. I really liked the excellent villain and the very strong acting overall, the quality vision and the memorable soundtrack and also the good action. I think that this is a great movie to be watched at night with some company.

While certainly not the best vampire movie it was a breath of fresh air after Twilight. I also appreciated that while it was a comedy, Fright Night stays true to what vampires really are.

This movie is supposed to be cheesy almost satirical. It fits the genre of horror comedy perfectly.
