  • It is amazing how a certain book can balance between science and the almost religious belief in miracles
  • The book gives hope to people with a huge range of diseases and problems, including mental and sexual , as they are largely due to a problem in the brain - you know that we see , hear, feel and do other things exactly through the brain, and not the sense organs

It is amazing how a certain book can balance between science and the almost religious belief in miracles.”The Brain That Changes Itself” of Doidge tells just such stories , border lining on real miracles - paralyzed patients who begin to use their limbs, people with great brain damages who continue their lives as before, even a woman who has only one brain hemisphere, but in spite of that leads an almost normal existence…

      It’s hard

to believe in these things, I can admit it. According to Doidge our brains have one single major quality and that’s plasticity. Certain areas may take on new functions , replace and compensate injured parts of the brain, they can specialize themselves to perform specific actions and other things. He calls the science of studying these processes “neuroplasticity.”

The examples that he shows are numerous and each one of them is more bizarre than the next one. People with paralysis of one side of the body are subjected to therapy , according to which their healthy limb is immobilized and so the brain is forced to resume using the paralyzed side. The plasticity of our brains can be used for the treatment of nervous conditions, it can help in stressful times to help our career among other things. It proves that if only for thinking a person can change his ...

The book gives hope to people with a huge range of diseases and problems, including mental and sexual , as they are largely due to a problem in the brain - you know that we see , hear, feel and do other things exactly through the brain, and

not the sense organs. Doidge describes a series of experiments that in the near future will lead to a revolution in the treatment of currently considered incurable cases.

The book is inspiring. It is not a fantasy book in any case, and it inspires confidence, especially with the descriptions of computer programs that help both for children to develop their abilities and for adults, who have survived severe strokes, to be able to return to life.

Faith says :

This is a fantastic book on Neuroplacticity. When applied scientifically, the theory can help those with serious neurological issues.

When applied with magical thinking it is ridiculous and basically tells people that you can think yourself healthy, which is dumb and should be reserved for daytime talk shows.

Please stay away from this book if you want to “think yourself thin” or whatever your issue is. It isn’t going to fix you.

Please take a look at this book if you are interested in Neuroplasticity and the scientific frontier it presents. This is a well-written book and has lots of interesting examples of stand-out cases. It would be helpful to a lay person trying to understand a complicated topic. I loved it.
