  • I don't believe it's comparable to cable or DSL, so I would only recommend it if neither of these are available
  • I was also disappointed because it's more expensive than DSL or cable and depending on your plan you'll only be able to use a pre-determined amount of gigabytes, after which your service is slowed
  • After using it for some time, I believe it's worth it
  • It's amazing because videos load smoothly without delay or lag
  • If you have experience with a satellite ISP you've probably noticed that they can disconnect with the slightest amount of rain-that's not the case with Exede

If you’re familiar with WildBlue you’re likely to know about their original internet service, the new Exede service is a huge improvement! Of course it functions more efficiently, but it’s also more reliable. But, it also has downsides that I’ll get to in a moment. I’m not located within range of DSL or cable so WildBlue was one a few options for internet service.

to use a pre-determined amount of gigabytes, after which your service is slowed. I have the basic plan, which is 60 dollars and includes 10 GB of data. After using it for some time, I believe it’s worth it. I would have preferred an unlimited, but it’s not offered. However, I was pleased to find out that it’s still usable after it’s slowed. I’ve used other satellite providers that have slowed the service to only a few KB/ps after the usage is reached-this is not the case. To give you some idea it operates regularly at about 6MBps and when the usage is
reached, it averages about 2-3MBps. I don’t believe it’s too bad when compared to other providers.

I wasn’t too pleased with the length of time it took for the installation to take place. It took about 2 weeks after placing the order, but that’s history at this point. I do want to mention a few things about the pricing, some of which I wasn’t aware of until the installation. The free installation does not include the price of a pole, which you’ll need unless you have it installed on the house. I was able to purchase one from the installer for 75 dollars, which is kind of expensive.

mentioned before, it’s incredibly efficient! Before Exede it was impossible to stream video websites such as Youtube using a satellite ISP. It’s amazing because videos load smoothly without delay or lag. On average I get about 6MBps, and I love the fact that it’s consistent, which has not been the case in the past. Despite it being a satellite service, I love the fact that weather has almost no affect on the service. If you have experience with a satellite ISP you’ve probably noticed that they can disconnect with the slightest amount of rain-that’s not the case with Exede. It takes extremely bad weather for it
to disconnect, which is a huge plus! Websites only take 1-3 seconds to load, which is extraordinary for satellite service.

I do want to provide some advice to anyone that’s looking to configure it with a wireless device-contact WildBlue first. I spent hours trying to configure a linksys until I contacted WildBlue only to find out that something on the account was preventing it from working. Once this was fixed, it worked fine. Also, you will need to use your Wildblue email as the login, which took some time to find out.

Despite a few issues, altogether I’m very pleased with the service. I would definitely recommend it!
