My neighbors bought this for my son for his second birthday and what a great education toy it turned out to be! The neighbor who bought it for him is actually a teacher so she’s pretty good at picking out toys that are both educational and intriguing for little ones. She was spot on with this one.

From the time we took it out of the package he wanted to play with it right away and he almost immediately knew what to do. My husband sat down with him and showed him the basics and he wanted to play with it non stop

until he went to bed. It features a magnetic white board with 8 gears and 6 double sided mats. That mats have colored holes in them where you match the gears up to. The best part about the gears is that they are in two parts. The first step is taking the circular magnetic part of the gears and matching it up to the colored circle in the picture board. My son had a great time doing this with Daddy and I can tell it was both a great bonding experience for them as well as very educational for my son. As he went to match up the colors, he would say “nooo” to the colors that didn’t match up until he got it right. He is in the process of learning his colors and with 8 colors offered it has proven to really help him.

The next step is matching the gears to the magnetic circles once the circles are set up on the board. You could just as easily match incorrect colors together because they all fit perfectly together so if you are trying to teach colors it’s good to have someone work with your child and reinforce which colors go ...

where. After one night of playing, he was matching up all the colors on his own with minimal help from us. After he put the gears on, it is set up so you could turn any one of the gears and all the gears will turn with it. This simple fact really intrigued my son. He went through each gear and turned them all and loved the fact that they all turned together. It’s a great lesson in cause and effect as well. The gears are very easy for him to turn. There’s a little know on the
top that is perfect for his little grip and he is able to turn them smoothly.

The back of the board has a little pouch to tuck the pictures in that aren’t being used. It might be a little difficult for a young one to tuck them in but for an adult they slide in very easily and provide the perfect storage pouch. This is a definite must buy for toddlers. My son loves it and I would imagine anyone around his age would enjoy it too. You can get it for under 20 USD at sites like diapers.com or TJ maxx stores.
