  • I was never big on candles because I found that more often than not, I'd purchase a candle that smelled good in the container but once burned, would fill my room with a strong and awful odor that lasted for days
  • I decided to purchase a more universally-liked scent to try out first
  • I've already burned it about four times for four or more hours each and have only gone through about 3/4 of an inch of the candle wax, so I think that's pretty good for the price I paid
  • The one problem I found with burning the candle for over four hours is that because the Homemade Candles scent is so strong, it will become very concentrated in the room after that period of time
  • This allowed me to use the candle conservatively, which makes it even more worth the price I paid for it

I was never big on candles because I found that more often than not, I’d purchase a candle that smelled good in the container but once burned, would fill my room with a strong and awful odor that lasted for days. I much preferred spraying my room with Febreeze or even body spray; however, I heard a lot of good reviews about the Slatkin & Co. candles, so I decided to purchase some during the buy one get one free event at Bath & Body Works. I decided to purchase a more universally-liked scent to try out first: Homemade Cookies.

It is $19.50 for a three-wick 14.5 ounce candle, which is a little expensive to me, but Bath & Body Works frequently has buy one get one free sales for their candles,

which is the perfect time to buy them because ten dollars for a large candle is a pretty good deal. I found that the candle lasts a pretty long time for the average person. I’ve already burned it about four times for four or more hours each and have only gone through about 3/4 of an inch of the candle wax, so I think that’s pretty good for the price I paid. The key to burning the candle, I found, is that you need to keep it burning about four hours or else the wax will burn unevenly and usually one wick will end up being covered in wax when the candle dries again. After about four hours, the entire surface of the wax melts and will be able to dry and form a smooth surface that makes it easy to burn again next time. The one problem I found with burning the candle for over four hours is that because the Homemade Candles scent is so strong, it will become very concentrated in the room after that period of time. After about one hour, the scent diffused enough through the room that I would have been happy with blowing it out, since the Slatkin candles’ scent lasts a very long time, but I didn’t want to ruin the candle when the wax dried unevenly. After four hours, however, I could smell my candle, which was burning in my room upstairs, from the first floor. It did make my room smell very pleasant, but after spending a long time in the room, it gave ...

me a headache, so I think very sweet scents like Homemade Candles are best used for burning in a living room or kitchen instead of a bedroom, unless you are an extreme fan of the scent.

If you are only using the candle to make your room smell nice, the good thing about the Homemade Cookies candle from Slatkin & Co. is that the scent lasts for a very long time. Even three days after burning the candle, I could still smell the scent in my room, which meant that I wouldn’t have to keep burning the candle constantly. This allowed me to use the candle conservatively, which makes it even more worth the price I paid for it. Homemade Cookies smells pretty much like the names suggests, like baked goods mixed

with vanilla, not too artificial or too sweet (unless smelled for a long time), and I think it’s a pretty universally-liked scent, especially if you’re planning on having guests over at your house.

Overall, I think the candle is worth repurchasing because the scent is one that I really liked because it wasn’t too artificial, too sweet, or too overpowering. I also liked the fact that the candle lasts a very long time because burning it for over four hours will barely make a dent in the wax. That comes with a downside, however, because in order to get the melted wax to distribute evenly when it dries, I needed to burn the candle for a very long time, which I personally thought made my room too concentrated with the Homemade Cookies scent.
