I really enjoy having biscuits, or at the very least, some kind of bread, with my breakfast and dinner meals. It makes the meal more enjoyable and filling if I have scrumptious biscuits or bread to compliment whatever it is that I’m having. That’s why I’m always on the lookout for a new kind of biscuit or bread to try to see if I can discover a new favorite or expand the variety that I already enjoy. The Pillsbury Grands! Homestyle Blueberry Biscuits is a relatively new product. I hadn’t noticed it before in the stores that I typically shop at and the packaging itself states that it’s new, so I was positive I hadn’t yet tried these blueberry biscuits yet. I definitely wanted to give them a try, too, since I like blueberries, and better yet, the

biscuits were on sale for one dollar and ninety-nine cents at the time. That’s a good price for Pillbury biscuits, especially the “grands” variety. Eight big blueberry biscuits for just under two dollars? I couldn’t pass it up.

Like all other Pillsbury biscuits, these were equally easy to prepare as the biscuits themselves easily separate and so it’s a quick matter of opening up the roll and placing the biscuits on a baking pan. As they were cooking in the oven, they smelled quite good. There was that typical biscuit-like smell, but additionally, there was the presence of blueberry mixed in, and my appetite seemed to grow. They certainly smelled tasty and I hoped that they would taste as good as they smelled. When the biscuits came out of the oven, just as before they went in the oven,

the faint blue tint was there with darker blue pockets, but also, the familiar golden brown color was also still present. The biscuits, being part of the “grands” line, baked big, just the way I like them. I spread a light amount of butter along the cut biscuits, something I don’t always have to do since some of the biscuits I buy already already “butter-tasting” as they’re called, but these weren’t, so I added a little butter, ensuring not to go too overboard because I didn’t want the butter flavor to overtake the blueberry flavor.

When I bit into one of the blueberry biscuits, I was a bit underwhelmed. I expected there to be a great deal of rich blueberry flavor judging by how much blueberry flavoring appeared to be in the biscuits. I could certainly taste the blueberry,

but it was far fainter than I was expecting. The scent of blueberries seemed to be stronger than the actual taste of blueberries, and that did disappoint me to an extent. While I certainly still did enjoy the blueberry biscuits, I didn’t find myself enjoying them quite as much as I expected. The biscuits, like the other Pillsbury biscuits that I’ve bought, came out soft and it only took two biscuits, along with my meal, before I started feeling full, so the biscuits were just as filling as “grands” that I’ve bought. Still, I was disappointed that the biscuits didn’t wow me with blueberry flavor like I expected them to.

The Pillsbury Grands! Homestyle Blueberry Biscuits might satisfy some out there that enjoy blueberry-flavored foods. If the biscuits can be found on sale, you may want to give them

a try. Perhaps my expectations were too high and that’s why I couldn’t enjoy them as much as I expected to. I simply wanted a blueberry biscuit that didn’t offer a mild taste of blueberries, and that’s what these surprisingly offered despite how rich in blueberries the actual biscuits looked. I doubt I will be buying them again as I have plenty of other biscuits that I buy and enjoy more than I did with these. The blueberry biscuits aren’t terrible, and aside from the somewhat lacking blueberry taste, everything else about them, like size and number of the biscuits and easy of preparation as well as softness are all great and had the blueberry taste been just as great, I would have been a regular buyer of them, but that didn’t end up being the case, unfortunately.

It would be nice if they had more blueberry flavor, just as long as its not too much.

I agree that too much blueberry flavor would be overdoing it, I just wish that these biscuits struck a better balance in flavor. Too much flavor isn’t always a good thing, but neither is too little flavor.

I agree, something new is always a good thing. I got them on sale for 2 for $ 3.

I look forward to trying new foods, it’s just a shame that this was something that didn’t strike me as being delicious and enjoyable. Still, you don’t know unless you try

The one’s I’m eating now have salty taste on the outside….ick…the blueberry I agree should have been more present. Ugh it would help with the salty outside too.

CirclingCanvas replies :

I don’t recall the biscuits having an overly salty taste, but perhaps your taste buds are simply more sensitive to salt than mine are. More blueberry flavor certainly would have been welcomed, but I guess those of us that want real blueberry biscuits will just have to resort to making them ourselves rather than relying on the convenience of biscuits from the dairy section

My area sold the blueberry biscuits for a short amount of time. I had them twice. I was utterly impressed. I liked them better then the ones I have tried before. What took it over the top was putting grape jelly inside the biscuits. Really good. Even though I like strawberry jelly a lot better than grape, blueberry biscuits and grape jelly was the perfect match. Disappointing that the grocery stores stopped selling them. Is there a grocery store that sells them on the west coast states (CA, NV, OR, AZ)?

Unfortunately, according to a post on Pillsbury’s Facebook page, the blueberry biscuits have been discontinued. You can try voicing your disappointment and desire for the return of the biscuits, along with others that loved the product, either by contacting Pillsbury through the company’s official website or Facebook page.
