When it comes to most of Stephen King’s movies I know to almost always expect three things: horror, mentally ill people and jaw dropping endings. This movie gives all three. It is a psychological horror that basically tells a story about a group of people who hide out in a grocery store when a governmental experiment is released in the area due to a storm that destroyed the military base.

The story itself was kind of slow pace but had sections of thrilling

action scenes. My favorites being when they try to escape - once to the pharmacy for medicine and the other time to find a better hide out.

It was gruesome however. Shocks like mutated spiders jumping out of no where is a common case in this.

The actors do their part beautifully. I partially like the variety of personalities.

Even the minor characters overcome internal obstacles like the store worker - Ollie (actor Toby Jones). He was weak but ultimately when faced with possible persecution by a very religious ‘cult’ he stepped up.

The woman that lead this ‘cult’ (acted by Marcia Gay Harden) was a static character however the extreme of her personality was increased with every new follower she got. I think that the sacrifice and the demand for another person to be sacrificed is what pushed the climax.

Without her I doubt the main character would not have been drawn to the ending that he received. The main character, David,

(played by Thomas Jane) is a father.

I feel that the fact that he is a father in the way that he was portrayed prevents him from coming across as a want to be hero or leader of the group and yet there is not doubt that he often takes charge in this movie. I don’t entirely like his character because his personality - as a character is fake.

He tries to give people what he wants them to see and not what

he thinks. This movie reminds me of a Twilight Zone or Night Gallery episode and that is because of the ending.

Now there are movies that you think about for a few minutes after you watch them and then there are ones that have you stunned for hours after you watch it. I have to say hands down that this is a latter kind of movie.

The ending was a shocker - I won’t spoil it but it was the ending that made this movie worth watching.
