Over the past few years, Disney California Adventure theme park has undergone some changes and renovations. I have visited the park twice since the changes have been put in place and most of them I like. One thing I dislike however, is the new entrance. The old entrance featured large letters that spelled out “California” and just seemed to have a more inviting vibe to it. In comparison, the new entrance appears to be much more bland looking, with the lettering removed and the entry gates painted blue with “California Adventure” in small red lettering sitting above. They have also taken down some of the nice features inside like the huge sun sculpture and the Mickey Mouse ears on the California Screamin’ loop.

One of the most exciting new changes though, is the addition of an extra “land” called Cars Land. Based on the Pixar movie, Cars Land is the home of three new attractions - Radiator Springs Racers, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree

and Luigi’s Flying Tires. Radiator Springs Racers is one of my favourite attractions in the entire Disney California Adventure park. It’s similar to Epcot’s Test Track ride, and lets park visitors race against another car full of participants. Cars Land is visually appealing and looks just like a scene right out of the movie. Life size vehicles from the movie are also led through Cars Land throughout the day giving park-goers an up close look at their favourite characters.

Disney California Adventure has also added a spectacular night time water show called “World Of Color”. “World Of Color” takes place on the Paradise Pier lagoon and shows a range of short clips from Disney favourites such as Toy Story, Wall-E, Alice In Wonderland, The Lion King, A Bug’s Life and many others. The show uses remarkable special effects including lasers, fire and hologram effects. The show is fantastic, however, you do have to wait quite a while for the show to start and there is only standing room.

The Little Mermaid ride is another new addition to the park. Seated in a large clam shell, The Little Mermaid ride takes visitors on a cute under sea adventure featuring wonderful music and characters you will be familiar with from The Little Mermaid movie. While young children will love this ride, it’s also one the entire family will enjoy. I always go on this ride several times on each visit to California Adventure. I particularly love the big purple octopus inside.

After the sun goes down, it’s time to party! Based on Tim Burton’s remake of Alice In Wonderland, the Mad T Party offers a party and nightclub type of atmosphere with resident Djs, performers and a band made up of people resembling characters from Alice In Wonderland. I’m not really into the dance music and house music that the Djs were playing, but I still absolutely loved the atmosphere the Mad T Party ...

brought to the park and felt it was just what the park needed. I really loved the band though. They played classic hits like Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer” and newer tracks such as Pink’s “Raise Your Glass”. The Mad T Party also has alcoholic beverages for sale at the Drink Me cocktail club. Despite the party atmosphere and alcohol, Disney has managed to keep the Mad T Party very family friendly and everyone is encouraged to get involved and dance along.

While all of these new attractions are fun and exciting, you can still experience most of your old favourites like Grizzly Peak, Toy Story Midway Mania, Soarin’ Over California and Mickey’s Fun Wheel. When you ride Mickey’s Fun Wheel, make sure to try the swinging gondola at least once. I first tried the swinging gondola a few years back and have never looked back at the stationary one since!

I would also greatly recommend checking out the 3D

films Disney California Adventure has to offer. Located in A Bug’s Land, you will find “It’s Tough To Be A Bug”. This attraction never gets old and I would say it’s one of the best 3D films I have experienced. Another great one is Muppet 3D Vision. Both of these films provide amusing content the whole family will love.

Another feature of the park I would recommend is the Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta restaurant located on Paradise Pier. This is a great place to have dinner with a large selection of food to choose from. In particular, I would recommend the flatbread pizza. It is always fresh and tastes amazing!

Overall, I always find Disney California Adventure to be an enjoyable experience. Rides, parades and entertainment are always of high quality. I do hope they bring back the Electric Light Parade one of these days, but in the mean time, it still provides a great fun-filled day for people of all ages.
