I have been a firm fan of Sennheiser’s products for a number of years, and I always went for the £30-£40 price range headphones, and was happy with the results.
Sennheiser’s HD 215 headphones are a step up from that. These are available online for ~£65.

Sound with these headphone, is excellent. Considering the price, it’s astounding. Sennheiser do a range of very expensive reference headphones, and their sound is reflected in the price, but the HD 215s headphones are brilliant for their cost. They are just out of the cheap range, and just into the expensive quality. Best of both worlds.
My only real issue with the aforementioned cheaper headphones offered are that if the cable in worn, and loses a connection inside, there is nothing you can do about it whatsoever. You have to buy ...
