  • I found the location to be very convenient as it is within walking distance to Maranatha Christian University and it is also about 10-15 minutes drive to the renowned Institut Teknologi Bandung
  • I had a problem with my magnetic card key several times, when I was unable to get into my room, once in the afternoon and once in the evening the next day
  • I was disappointed that it had to happen the second time though, luckily they redeemed themselves by quickly rectifying my card and it worked until the time I checked out
  • All in all, it was a pleasant stay and I would recommend the place for solo travelers or conference attendees who wouldn't mind a little quiet neighbourhood away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre

I last stayed at the Cherry Homes in February 2013, when I attended a seminar at Bandung Institute of Technology. The Cherry Homes is a nice place for a budget stay in Bandung, depending on your purpose of travel. The Standard Room was priced around $25, which is very reasonable for me. I found the location to be very convenient as it is within walking distance to Maranatha Christian University and it is also about 10-15 minutes drive to the renowned Institut Teknologi Bandung.

However, the location may be quite inconvenient if you are looking to take public transport to the city area as the hotel is tucked in a residential area. Getting a cab from there, even when I called for advanced booking, was a huge challenge. The area was also gated, and the gate closes at 10pm daily. This means that cars or

cabs cannot drop guests in after 10pm, so I had to walk a little to the hotel. The walk was really short though, it didn’t matter that much to me as I wasn’t carrying anything heavy.

The good side is, being in a gated residential area, the location is very safe and quiet. There is also a wide range of local cafes and street food vendors just outside the gated area. On the ground floor, there is a cake shop and a minimart, so it is indeed very convenient. I ordered the popular rainbow cake from the cake shop, but I honestly didn’t really like it as it was too creamy and heavy for my taste. The minimart stocks up basic snacks an drinks and toiletries - nothing too fancy.

The Standard Room, where I stayed, was small and it had an attached bathroom. It was ...

      • clean and comfortable enough for a budget stay. The shower and the hot water worked throughout my stay- this is something that is not guaranteed if you have been to other budget hotels in Bandung - and very important too, as the weather can be chilly at times, especially in the evenings during rainy season! There wasn’t much space for big luggages, so, I wouldn’t stay there if I had a lot of family members traveling with me.

I had a problem with my magnetic card key several times, when I was unable to get into my room, once in the afternoon and once in the evening the next day. It was inconvenient, but the staff on duty fixed the problem right away. I was disappointed that it had to happen the second time though, luckily they redeemed themselves by quickly rectifying my card and

it worked until the time I checked out.

On the whole, the hotel staffs are friendly and helpful. They even went out of their way to help me arrange for transportation - driven by a staff who was supposed to be having his day off - to the airport when I could not get any cab and was almost late to the airport.

All in all, it was a pleasant stay and I would recommend the place for solo travelers or conference attendees who wouldn’t mind a little quiet neighbourhood away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. However, if you are looking for a hip place near the city centre with pubs and clubs nearby, this is certainly not the hotel for you. As for me, it is worth the money and I would go back there again for my next solo trip to Bandung.
