  • After hearing all this buzz, “Blackberry this, Blackberry that”, I decided to buy a Blackberry for myself
  • So, I just kept seeing the Curve everywhere I went, and it was affordable – so I bought it
  • You also have things like ‘Memo’, so you can just type whatever came to your mind – awesome if you write a lot, things like blogs, articles, reviews, etc. Another amazing thing is the instant notifications of emails, facebook notifications, twitter – your social networking skills really come alive with a Blackberry

After hearing all this buzz, “Blackberry this, Blackberry that”, I decided to buy a Blackberry for myself. Now, when you are not a Blackberry user, you are not conversant with which type to buy for yourself. So, I just kept seeing the Curve everywhere I went, and it was affordable – so I bought it.

The first few days are awesome; the phone really reacts well to the user. The qwerty keypad is so friendly, it feels like you’re on a computer, but whilst on your phone. The calendar acts as a good diary of events, keeps you posted – now you’ll never forget your friends birthdays because it synchronizes with your facebook account.

      You also have things

like ‘Memo’, so you can just type whatever came to your mind – awesome if you write a lot, things like blogs, articles, reviews, etc. Another amazing thing is the instant notifications of emails, facebook notifications, twitter – your social networking skills really come alive with a Blackberry.

Now, after a few days when you then realize that – it’s just a phone. Some of these issues may just be because of my network carrier, but I shall mention them as if it affects all network carriers so that maybe you’ll ask your network carriers about any small print issues on their Blackberry Internet service plan.

The first thing that really shoots you in the foot is the cap on the email attachment size limit, which is limited to 3MB. You can’t even send your Mum a song that your niece performed at school because of this silly limit. Another thing, is that your phone contacts are not automatically backed up to your email, only your BBM contacts are backed up. So, unless you were saving to SIM, you have a lot of work to do when you upgrade or change phone.

Another thing, is apps like Skype that make money through data plans by having their ‘free skype to skype’ plan, don’t work on Blackberry because it runs on an unlimited data plan – which means people would be on Skype forever. Whereas my ...

brother, on a Nokia E63 was happily Skyping away; but the highly esteemed Blackberry couldn’t do so.

Another thing that is destructive about a Blackberry is that it requires 2 hands to type, so your attention literally has to either be ALL on the phone or off of it, it’s an either/or situation. That’s why if you ever notice Blackberry users, they are terrible at socializing in real-life when they are on their phone; but talk to them on BBM and you’ll have the time of your life. Whereas touchscreen/android phones have this Swype option, which gives you the speed of qwerty without having to use 2 hands. So you can be in a conversation whilst having

      a conversation on social apps.

So, in conclusion; unless you solely want a Blackberry for BBM and maybe twitter and facebook, so that your status updates are “via Blackberry” – then I’d recommend you to not get one. I repeat, not get one; Blackberry was a leader with it’s innovations – but, sadly other companies are taking their ideas and perfecting the flaws and errors that Blackberry had and are including those ‘perfected’ ideas on phones that are almost half the price of a BB. So I’d encourage you to look around and see if you find something good on Android, iOs or Symbian software – and only if you have to get a Blackberry…get a Blackberry.
