I was very exciting last spring to find out that a new Garbage album was going to come out after such a long wait, since their 2005 album, Bleed Like Me. And so I basically downloaded the album as soon as it was released. I will be honest and say that I did not expect the album to be very good. I was not impressed by their previous release, Bleed Like Me, and, my thinking was: their heyday was almost twenty years ago now. With Bleed Like Me they already began showing some bland efforts, and lack of imagination and also the inapplicability of their old musical formulas. I started thinking of them

      as true has-beens.

But they strongly resurrected themselves in my eyes with this album. I think that this record is really good. Starting with the first track, things start in a really big way. The first song is called Automatic Systematic Habit. And this song is a very powerful and effective beast.

You really need to listen to this song several times before you can really get what it is about. It is a very quick song, it has lots of dynamism and power. It goes very quickly, it has a fantastic speed all through its duration. In essence, this is probably a dance song. I am sure that if this track was

recorded as a dance track, with only beats and electronic effects, it could then be enjoyed by almost anybody, and it could be a huge mainstream hit.

But this track of course, has an arrangement which is pretty heavy though. There are lots of guitars, lots of power and dynamism. And the production on this song, as it is pretty much on the whole album, is really fantastic, with great attention to detail, which is of course, Garbage trademark. Big Bright World does not fail to impress either. Even though it is a completely different kind of track, it is equally strong and appealing.

This song focuses on melody. Manson is singing rather ...

well. Her voice has a great texture, and, with age, probably got a little lower in pitch. The melody itself is quite appealing. The sound arrangement is also great.

The guitars roar very powerfully above the instrumental texture of this track, and the electronic effects are not numerable, but are very welcome nonetheless. Blood for Poppies, to me personally, is the best song on the album. And it is a great track to stand alone, and be remembered out of the whole thing. The guitars and the sound is good as always, but this track also has great, superb vocal lines. The verse and the chorus are equally fantastic.

      The verse is rather

quick, consisting of speedy sequences of notes and transitions. It sounds very appealing. And the chorus is even better than the verse, with is powerful linear section. It sounds very impressive. It is the type of chorus, the notes of which are so good you can listen to them again and again.

And the chorus is also really catchy. It is appealing. Not Your Kind of People is a cool slow and otherworldly type of song. I like its melody as well. I also like the songs Control and Felt.

They have some cool rock credentials, which you don’t always find even on a Garbage song. This album is a great comeback. It sounds truly strong and very impressive indeed.
