If you’ve ever dined at a restaurant, you would have noticed the servers don’t just bring you ordinary butter. The butter usually has some sort of herb or spices mixed in to add flavor to your steak, chicken, fish, vegetables, or savory item you’ve ordered from the menu.

Compound butters are made by allowing the butter to reach room temperature, and then adding it to a food processor with whatever herbs and spices

you choose. Then you scrap out the butter mixture, putting it in some container or molding it back to its original form back in the refrigerator to become solid again.

They are very simple and easy to make, and can add a lot of flavor and interest to your dishes, instead of the mundane butter most people are used to eating.

Compound butters can be either savory or sweet and the ingredients you ...

      • choose to include in the butter are solely up to you.

If you’re making a savory compound butter, you can add it to any dish such as chicken, steak, fish, vegetables, bread, etc.

If you’re making sweet compound butter, add it to any breakfast item such as waffles, pancakes, toast, oatmeal, etc.

        Here is the recipe.

Ingredients: 1 stick of butter, softened 1/3 cup of herbs of your choice

Directions: 1. Place butter in either a food

        processor or a mixing bowl.

        2. Add the 1/3 cup of herbs and spices to the bowl and mix for two to three minutes until well mixed. If you do not own a food processor, you can still add the ingredients to the bowl and use a whisk and mix well.

        3. When everything is blended well remove the compound butter and place into a container or mold it back into its original shape and place in the refrigerator to chill.
