  • And so I looked at the stuff she had on YouTube, and then I downloaded her latest album, Strange Mercy, and then her previous album, and, well, I was impressed, and I think that she deserves to be promoted and to acquire wider fame and recognitions, since Annie Clark is a gifted song-writer and musician
  • She is not so much focused on catchiness of the tunes, she is more concerned, I think, about the musical correctness and organic development of these melodies
  • The arrangements are very original and interesting on this album

I first came across the female musician called St. Vincent when she was a guest, along with David Byrne, on the Colbert Report. David Byrne is the leader of the legendary band Talking Heads, and I have been quite familiar with their music for years, while St. Vincent was an attractive young woman/ So I was interested by her, my thinking being: If the venerable David Byrne is doing an album with this young and fresh musician, that young musician must be really good. And so I looked at the stuff she had on YouTube, and then I downloaded her latest album, Strange Mercy, and then her previous album, and,

well, I was impressed, and I think that she deserves to be promoted and to acquire wider fame and recognitions, since Annie Clark is a gifted song-writer and musician.

On this album St. Vincent is displaying great vocal work. At first when I listened to this album the vocals felt not very distinct, it was difficult to catch and get hold of the exact vocal line. But with time I got used to this feature of this album.

This complex nature of the vocal line, it is due to the way in which the vocals recorded. The vocals themselves are very solid and consistent, but they are in several

lines, and they might feel complex at times. Annie Clark has a very pleasant voice. Her voice is very strong.

Her voice has a very good vocal ring, it resonates very well. Her voice sounds very feminine, her pitch delivery is rather wide, but she seems to enjoy going into the higher registers. And she sounds great both in the highs and in the lows also, even though the lows are less frequent on this album. Her vocal line has a very good smooth flow.

She is talented, and she has a great sense for the vocal line. Her voice is very flexible. She is professional and characteristic.

The compositions of the songs are really strong.

On this album all the melodies are consistent and memorable, and yet they also last for a long time, they are complex enough to maintain your interest for longer periods of time. She is not so much focused on catchiness of the tunes, she is more concerned, I think, about the musical correctness and organic development of these melodies. All the tunes ooze quality. It is evident that the musician has a great feeling for what clever music is supposed to be like.

The arrangements are very original and interesting on this album. At first you might think that they

are too unconventional, but after a while you begin to realize that the elements which present highlight the most important features of the music, and all the songs really stand out. Cheerleader is a song that displays the power of the stylish arrangement very well. The melody itself is great and the chorus sounds really explosive.

The music video for this song is also very memorable. Cruel is a song that grows and expands very well, and does a remarkable job of expressing anxiety and insecurity, high concern and rebellion. Surgeon and Hysterical Strength are another two very strong songs, but the album on the whole is great, infused with a single mood and atmosphere.
