Explain-health.com is a website I found while searching for various medical information using generic search terms in order to find a resource for educational purposes. I noticed the site toward the top of Google results, despite rarely being satisfied with what tops the lists I decided to check out the site. The articles all appear to be written by the same person, Peter Sedesse MD.

The fact that the author has MD behind his name should be comforting, that is until you notice the articles are all generic. The information contained in them can be found in a

few million articles on the web by performing a search on any of the major and not so major search engines. The lack of verifiability to the credentials of this Peter Sedesse person is another thing that bothers me. I also find it rather disturbing that there are not more contributors to the site, and that while the site says the articles are designed around frequently asked questions the lack of additional resources is disturbing.

The privacy policy in addition to stating that no personal information is gathered claims that links to outside resources are used to provide ...

      • additional information. These links are well hidden as I have yet to find them through hundreds of visits to the site in hopes of finding something that was educational and not common knowledge on the site.

This common among websites, but an educational background for the medical professionals offering the information would seriously set my mind at ease. The appearance of the sight is rather bland, the layout is simplistic. The ads are distracting from the nature of the site. Dating ads are not fitting for a medical sight even if it is full of generic information that

is readily available at numerous other sites around the web. Some of the sites are more credible than others.

The site can not be given a negative rating so a 1 out of 10 will have to be sufficient. The articles are simplistic to the point of being rather poorly written. The simplistic nature and language befitting a kindergartener do not do justice to the by line of an MD. The site could vastly improve by adding a page about the main, actually only contributor to allow readers to verify that this person is capable of giving medical information.

    Mary Smith says :

I know Peter personally and he is not an MD.
