Speech Therapy and Associates located at 3124 West Main Street in Dothan, Alabama is an amazing facility that has only been open around two years at most. The speech therapists that were once at the now closed Spectrum opened an office together. They have a tutor and an OT in the building, neither of which are associated directly with them. The tutor sets her own hours, so do the OTs that are employed by a different company but use a single room in the facility meaning only one at a time can perform services.

Diane Steesland, Nicole Thoreson and the rest of the staff are all highly qualified in their individual fields. The ability to get multiple services in the office make it ideal for those, like me that have a schedule full of things makes life much easier. The friendly atmosphere makes it easy to sit in the waiting room watching television, using a laptop, reading magazines or chatting with other parents, therapist or the receptionist while the kids play with the toys available to them.

      The new office

and new name took some adjusting to but it is rather nice. The original floor in the lobby where you wait with children was originally carpeted but for the sake of the children it has been redone to give it the illusion of being hardwood. This is more sanitary, and the trucks were taken out that once created a hazard. The flooring and the changing of the wall color make the room appear larger and brighter to keep the children happier in the welcoming environment.

I liked the illusion of more space and it made the room and it creates a calming effect for my child. The trucks created a bit of a hazard but there are still toys, puzzles and books for the kids to enjoy. The space is smaller than the Spectrum offices previously resided in, making it easier to supervise your child.

Every effort possible is made to keep the schedules of the three speech therapists as full as possible while leaving room to be flexible with clients when the need arises. The ability of the facility ...

      • to willingly do whatever it takes to make life easier for the children they serve makes them a blessing in the area. The ability to cancel when it is an impossibility to make appointments and the willingness of the staff to rearrange schedules so that missed appointments can be made up is a blessing. The ability to be put on the cancellation list when there is a need for additional appointments is also a blessing.

The willingness of therapists to search for and provide parents with resource materials is priceless; and goes a long way to making life easier for those that would otherwise not have access to the materials required.

The office is in a complex or mini shopping center just a few doors down from ABA Associates whose therapists were formerly at spectrum. The office is easily identifiable with the colorful lettering and hand prints painted on the door. The proximity of the two offices is important because it means that parents can go from one therapy to another in a matter of minutes even going so far

as to schedule three therapies and the tutor in the same day if they have to.

The ABA therapist take the time to listen to parents and develop programs to suit the children’s individual needs. They also take the time to show parents the methods they use to get results, and work with parents to solve problems that occur in daily life with an autistic child.

The therapists at both facilities are amazing and offer the best services humanly possible even consulting each other on various aspects of the cases they have to offer insight to parents that are often times in desperate need when they find them. I have been blessed to be able to keep my child in multiple therapies without draining my budget as a result of the offices willingness to work with parents so closely when it comes to scheduling in order to make things easier on those that are strapped for time and money.

I can give both of these facilities a 10 out of 10 rating for the location, close proximity, willingness to help and outstanding services provided.
