This book first drew me in because of the beautiful cover, as is often the reason I pick up a book. And, as is rare, I was delighted to find the story was actually worthy of the cover!

The story was a little bit different than typical – one of the outstanding elements the fact that it had such a small cast. It

really had about four substantial characters. But somehow, it doesn’t feel at all deprived. The characters are all very well done and compliment each other so well, that no one else is needed.

Then there’s the ‘journey’ aspect of the book. Much of the book consists of a journey, and it’s one that isn’t enhanced by all the typical excitement and adventure. Yet, somehow it does not feel slow. The author weaves such an arresting scene and makes interactions between her characters so enjoyable that you kind of wish the journey could last forever.

Of course, it doesn’t, but then the rest of the book is just as lovely. The author is gifted in somehow taking the simple and mundane and making them lovely ...

and engrossing. Her world is familiar enough that it can be related to, but enriched with enough unique culture and exotic elements to make it her own, and one you wish was YOUR own. She completely immerses you in this world, and in the lives of the characters. I was left feeling as if they were dear friends that I’ve known
forever, beloved and important and missed. I was so happy there were three sequels to continue in their adventures with them! They are sequels that only expand upon the things which made the first so sweetly compelling. There is true magic in these books. Magic that is all too rare in books, these days. They will always be treasures on my shelf!
