The Hunger Games is a trilogy of books by Suzanne Collins. The first book in the series, simply just called The Hunger Games is my favourite book in the series. The plot follows a sixteen year old girl named Katniss Everdeen, who bravely volunteers to take her sister’s place in a blood thirsty event called The Hunger Games. The Games consists of a brutal fight to the death between twenty four children (tributes), one girl and one boy from each district of Panem. Panem is now modern day America but the story is set in the future. There are twelve districts and a capital, who host The Hunger Games, to remind the districts that they are powerful and as a warning not to rebel. Katniss must fight

against children twice her size, who have been training their whole lives for the event and have never even gone hungry.

My favourite part of the book was basically the whole of the time Katniss spent in the arena because it is action packed and very imaginative. The arena is the place of horrors and the way the tributes adapt to their surroundings and manage to survive is clever. I also love the parts involving the costumes Cinna designs and just Cinna in general because Cinna is such a likeable character.

The protagonist is Katniss Everdeen. I particually like her because she has such a strong character and gives off an enormous vibe of power. Katniss is strongly against the Capital and know matter what she does, it seems to ...

      • give the impression of rebellion. The boy who goes into the arena from the same district as Katniss is called Peeta. Peeta is a likeable character, who you really feel sympathy for after the way Katniss acts because she is giving him the wrong idea.

The Hunger Games is a post-apocalyptic book. The genre is an adventure, action, dystopian, science fiction, young adult book. As you can see, it is covered in quite a few genres and can almost come under romance. It is an epic book, every page is full of action and Suzanne Collins does a great job of writing it. There are no illustrations.

I really loved this book and have read it plenty of times. It is so different from other books, not the vampire

romance novels and really keeps you interested until the very last page. Some of the sarcastic remarks made by Katniss and Haymitch made me laugh, especially in the part where Katniss speaks to the career tributes. Even though the situation is very unlikely, you are able to imagine you are in the arena, in the shoes of the tributes.

I think the people who would actually be able to understand and enjoy the book most would be young teenagers and any age group up from that. Do not read this if you have a weak stomach, as some of the deaths are quite gruesome. Other than that, the book is fairly tame and does not go into the details of the deaths too much. I strongly recommend you read the book.
