      “Quick and to the Pointless” is the seventh track off of Queens of the Stone Age album “Rated R”. The song is incredibly short and in a sense kind of lives up to it’s title. By no means is this song even close to being a single off of this excellent album. It’s just incredibly quirky and in more blight terms weird.

      The song starts off with an interesting little spoken line;

      “I don’t even know, what I’m doin here.”

      This in turn is followed by some cheesy female backup vocals screaming “Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!” and hand clapping. It kind of gives off like a cheer-leading vibe, which if you listen to the words

      in the song could totally be viable. The song is actually sung by Nick Oliveri the bassist of the group. Let me tell you… it is some of the most insane vocals I have heard in a long time. It sounds like the man is hyper ventilating on the track with all his screaming/shrieking and other odd noises he makes like the random “Whooooo!” Not only that but he actually slips words in Dutch throughout the song which makes for some interesting and confusing moments your first few listens until you’re actually compelled to look up the lyrics yourself. The actual instrumentation throughout the “song” is super basic. The guitar/bass just have ...

      • this really simple progression loop and the drums pretty much just play the high hat with a snare every now and then. I’m pretty sure the entire thing was just a joke, at least it feels that way. It actually feels like it could almost be a very basic blueprint for just about any Eagles of Death Metal song.

        “Quick and to the Pointless” throws off some pedophile vibes. More to the extent that the song seems to be about an eccentric old man who is interested in young woman who could possibly be in borderline illegal territory like between 16-18. The back up female vocals seem to support this idea, and the

        hand clapping gives off that cheerleader vibe, thus the “risky territory” vibe.

        The subject matter of this song is no doubt serious, but it is done in such a goofy and weird way that it makes the song pretty funny. “Quick and to the Pointless” is an interesting song to say the least despite how incredibly simple the song is. It’s not a bad song by any means, just one you shouldn’t take so literally. Play it to let off some steam or maybe get amped up. Of course you can always give it a whirl when you have a friend or guest over, if you want to confuse the hell out of them.
