In a somehow original yet cliche kind of way, The Avengers is one of the best movies of the year and easily the most entertaining. However this action thriller does not come out perfectly, a lot of small flaws make this only a good action movie and not a smart action movie. This movie will have you questioning future superhero titles as this is hard to beat, it might leave someone questioning the premise of having only one hero on screen because having five big name crime fighters upped the ante.

The story is fairly easily to understand and actually a little bland. A bad guy shows up and steals something that is very dangerous and plans to do something dangerous with it, this is while

the good guys struggle to get along and to get the dangerous item back. So the story is not exactly “Citizen Kane,” but the middle of the story when the heroes finally are brought together and struggle to unite will keep audiences interested easily. The beginning however is strangely slow, even though it is action packed just like the rest of the movie it feels empty. The dialogue is very stale and all the characters feel strangely 2-Dimensional especially Jeremy Renner who is playing Hawkeye. This is one of his worst jobs in the movies he has been in and he turns in one of the worst performances of the movie. His poor role is only eclipsed by the surprising disappointment of Samuel L. Jackson, who ...

      • also gives one of the most blatantly poor performances of his long career. Even with these two not doing so well, the acting is top notch, Robert Downey Jr. gives another great performance as the wise-cracking man in the iron suit, Tony Stark. Chris Evans got right back into character and actually delivers a couple of laughs as the now ‘old’ Captain America. Newcomers Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow are able to match the energy of the whole cast and Ruffalo as the Hulk really stands out. His performance as the Hulk was obviously mostly done with special effects and motion capture suits but the emotions he conveys through the face of the ‘big green rage monster’ are great
and the beast ends up looking very realistic. The chemistry between all of the characters feels right and scenes where they are all together give a feeling of unity and reality in fear of what is going on in the movie.

It packs a punch until the last frame is shown and then some, (be sure to stay after the credits) you will not want to leave until the theater lights up as this movie delivers non-stop thrills and laughs as expected. If you haven’t already seen this blockbuster of ages, go now. It is not exactly the smartest movie ever made but you will not be bored either under any circumstance.
