  • On jubilee day I decided to put together a small afternoon tea for us all to enjoy, and when I saw this amazing Eddington's Cupcake Stand I decided to purchase one to show off my red, white and blue themed cakes in style
  • It arrived flat but putting it together was no problem at all, the 'plate' sections simply slot into some pre-cut notches in the central stand and once erected it's surprisingly stable considering it's made from card rather than plastic
  • When I noticed I rushed over thinking the stand was going to topple over, but when I got there I realised the stand was as solid as ever
  • I'm definitely going to pick another couple of these Eddington's cake stands up next time I'm out as they're such a fun way to serve cakes whether it's for a family afternoon tea or as a larger buffet for a birthday celebration

It seems the whole world went jubilee crazy when Queen Elizabeth of England celebrated sixty years on the throne recently, my daughters being no exception as they learned about her reign and the Commonwealth in school. On jubilee day I decided to put together a small afternoon tea for us all to enjoy, and when I saw this amazing Eddington’s Cupcake Stand I decided to purchase one to show off my red, white and blue themed cakes in style.

The stand is made of reinforced cardboard which has been given a shiny top layer for hygiene reasons and also to make the bright colours stand out. It arrived flat but putting

it together was no problem at all, the ‘plate’ sections simply slot into some pre-cut notches in the central stand and once erected it’s surprisingly stable considering it’s made from card rather than plastic.

The Union Jack design is fantastic; bright, cheerful and covering just about every square millimetre of the stand! Most cake stands I’ve used have been pastel coloured or plain white so it’s a fantastic change to use on that’s so brightly coloured for a change.  The stand is roughly 45cm tall and with the largest (bottom) plate having a diameter of of 35cm it can hold plenty of cupcakes, or even muffins if cakes aren’t your thing.  There is enough space between the plates that you’re unlikely to damage the cakes as you put them down or pick them up, even those with high frosting are perfectly safe thanks to the level of clearance on the stand.

Despite the fact that this is cardboard you can use the stand numerous times providing you don’t let it get too sticky or dirty. You can’t wash it obviously, but the shiny surface that has been layered over the coloured stand means it’ll withstand a wipe over with a damp cloth to remove any smears of frosting and crumbs - you can’t use detergent so cleaning is possible only on the lightest ...

stains but it’s worth doing to be able to get an extra use or two out of this fabulous cake stand.  Another thing I’d mention is the importance of wiping/cleaning it as quickly after use as possible, this prevents any stains setting in and spoiling the Union Jack finish.

The stand is much sturdier than you think it’s going to be, it stands straight without any wobbling at all even if the cakes are taken off unevenly - as happened today when all the chocolate cupcakes were removed leaving the back of the stand fully laden with strawberry sponges and a bare front. When I noticed I rushed over thinking the stand

was going to topple over, but when I got there I realised the stand was as solid as ever. Impressive!

I’m definitely going to pick another couple of these Eddington’s cake stands up next time I’m out as they’re such a fun way to serve cakes whether it’s for a family afternoon tea or as a larger buffet for a birthday celebration. In fact I plan to use mine again at the weekend when my daughter celebrates her fifth birthday - she loved the stand when she first saw it (thanks to school lessons focussing on the jubilee) so will be over the moon to see her Disney Princesses cupcakes on the Union Jack stand.
