  • Although there are no heroes and villains here, there are definitely those characters who are more ominous, and they are dressed as such
  • One of the greatest performances in my opinion is a clown-like character who sits in a window, suspended from the air
  • I love Cirque du Soleil, and La Nouba is not only a wonderful show for Cirque-fanatics, but also for those who are new to the experience

This was my very first Cirque du Soleil show, and I’ve seen it a total of 3 times. It holds a special place in my heart because it was first, but it is also a wonderful introduction to the Cirque world. The combination of mystery and fantastic performances make it stand out in their extensive show lineup.

La Nouba is named after a French expression which basically means to party, and this show is truly a celebration. Bright colors, high-flying acts, and just a hint of the unknown make it incredibly entertaining for guests of any age. The show begins with a clown act, and these two performers will pop up several times throughout the show. It’s a fun way

to entertain the audience who is already seated as others filter in.

Once the lights go down, all of the characters come onto stage, and it immediately becomes clear this isn’t a normal circus. The costumes are mostly beautiful and bright, although a few characters are more drably-clothed and radiate an ominous feel. Although there are no heroes and villains here, there are definitely those characters who are more ominous, and they are dressed as such.

An odd and pretty much impossible storyline is the background for many awe-inspiring acts. And I don’t mean impossible in a bad way - the narrative of La Nouba is simply so complex with so many little things going on that it is absolutely impossible ...

      • to see everything happening, even on multiple views. Which is really cool because every time I go, I find something new and fantastic.

The music and singing is beautifully haunting. We even bought the soundtrack after watching the first one. And it sets the perfect mood for this mysterious production.

The acrobatics are all flawless. These performers are truly artists in their field, and I doubt you will find more talented acrobats than here. One of the greatest performances in my opinion is a clown-like character who sits in a window, suspended from the air. He does a number of crazy acrobatics from what is basically a suspended frame that requires an incredible amount of strength. And then, just like that,

he’s just another background character adding atmosphere to the show.

La Nouba is an expensive show, but most any show of this production-quality (including all of the Cirque shows) are priced likewise. Fortunately, the show is great from just about anywhere, so even cheap seats offer a great view. My personal favorite is back a bit from the stage so I don’t have to constantly look up. Wherever you sit, there is an intimacy about the seating arrangement that makes you feel close to everything.

I love Cirque du Soleil, and La Nouba is not only a wonderful show for Cirque-fanatics, but also for those who are new to the experience. And the price of the ticket is definitely worth the entertainment!
