  • I love Orville Redenbacher's and I love new gimmicks when it comes to snack foods so I didn't need any convincing to try the new Pop Up microwavable bowls that came out last year
  • I was turned on by the thought of less clean up and I thought it would be fun
  • I found this a little difficult to do at first
  • The fact that it has a large opening on the top helps me avoid getting my entire hand greasy from reaching into it

I love Orville Redenbacher’s and I love new gimmicks when it comes to snack foods so I didn’t need any convincing to try the new Pop Up microwavable bowls that came out last year. I was turned on by the thought of less clean up and I thought it would be fun.

I guess it was naive of me, but the first time I used one of these bags I thought it would turn into one of those old timey regangular cardboard popcorn containers. Well, that’s the impression I got from the picture on the box. So,

yes I was disappointed. The bag is made of the same paper as the old popcorn bags except for one thing. The top and bottom are made of a clear red cellophane. The top cellophane you rip off while holding the sides of the bag. I found this a little difficult to do at first. Now, I’ve got the hang of it after doing it so many times, but I still have to help my boyfriend out when he makes it for himself.

Anyway, the red cellophane bottom is kind of cool looking and I can look ...

      • through it to see how many of the kernels remained unpopped. The bag is designed in such a way that when fully popped it stands up on its own. It still doesn’t resemble a bowl to me, but at least it functions like one. The fact that it has a large opening on the top helps me avoid getting my entire hand greasy from reaching into it. This is important because I’m old school when it comes to popcorn. I prefer butter and lots of it. So, I’m glad to report that all the grease winds up
on my finger tips where it belongs.

I’m sure there’s less popcorn in the pop up bowls than the traditional bags. I have no proof. I don’t buy the other kind of microwave popcorn anymore so I can’t compare them. This is the only popcorn I buy anymore and I’d be annoyed if someone brought home the other kind. This really is an innovation in the field of microwave popcorn. I feel the world is slightly better as a result. Well, my world anyway.
