  • Although Hold Your Head doesn’t go through any drastic shift as it goes along, I think that the band still does a good job of keeping the track interesting which is partially due to Coyne’s performance throughout the song and partially due to the music itself
  • As a song by itself, the track only gets better as it progresses and I think that is yet another hint from Hit To Death In The Future Head of where the band would be going with their sound

Hold Your Head is a song by The Flaming Lips and the final track to appear on their album Hit To Death In The Future Head. Opening up with some incredibly grand and building percussion, I almost get the impression as if I’m listening to the score for a film during an epic scene.

Coyne comes in with the vocal melody for the track with a delivery that initially starts out somewhat bland but gets better

as it builds up and also includes an echo of itself.

Although Hold Your Head doesn’t go through any drastic shift as it goes along, I think that the band still does a good job of keeping the track interesting which is partially due to Coyne’s performance throughout the song and partially due to the music itself.

As a note about the music, it retains a fairly moderate tempo and pace to it, but it certainly ...

      • has the most grand sound out of any of the tracks on this album and possibly out of any of the preceding albums from the Flaming Lips.

Overall, although I find Hold Your Head to be quite enjoyable, I question its position in the track listing.

For some reason, this track simply doesn’t strike me as an album closer so the album lacks a sense of closure.

Despite this, this is only a minor flaw and is

really only relevant if listening to the album as a whole.

As a song by itself, the track only gets better as it progresses and I think that is yet another hint from Hit To Death In The Future Head of where the band would be going with their sound.

Although the band is able to achieve a grand and enjoyable sound, they keep it within reason and don’t drag out the song for longer than necessary.
