  • Despite this improvement in the vocal aspect of the track, the overall sound isn’t nearly as interesting as on the opening song in my opinion
  • Also, Coyne unfortunately seems to start off on this track with a fairly strong tone and then he gradually gets weaker as the song progresses

Hit Me Like You Did The First Time is a song by The Flaming Lips and the second song to appear on their fifth album, Hit To Death In The Future Head. Opening up with a somewhat lighthearted pattern, Coyne thankfully comes in with a vocal performance which sounds far more alive than his tone throughout the album’s opening song.

Despite this improvement in the vocal aspect of the track, the overall

sound isn’t nearly as interesting as on the opening song in my opinion.

Also, Coyne unfortunately seems to start off on this track with a fairly strong tone and then he gradually gets weaker as the song progresses.

Although Hit Me Like You Did The First Time has an incredibly accessible sound to it and it’s certainly an easy track to listen to, there are certainly a few weaknesses about it which ...

      • I had hoped the Flaming Lips would really move beyond.

The first thing about this track is that the songwriting is incredibly simple and it feels as if this track were written to be a single.

In addition, the vocals seem to start out promising and then Coyne gradually drops the ball in this department which really makes the track get weaker rather than stronger as the song progresses.

        Overall, I would say

that this song would be enjoyable to listen to every now and then, but it really does strike me as a song that gets old fast due to having nothing all that interesting about it.

A catchy song to listen to on rare occasion, this track unfortunately lacks anything truly unique about it and for that reason I would have to say that this song is just over average but certainly nothing special.
