  • Personally, I find the sound throughout the first verse of this track to be somewhat empty for my taste, and the band unfortunately doesn’t really fix this problem
  • Overall, I think that Take Meta Mars certainly had potential with its sound, but the Flaming Lips unfortunately don’t fully deliver with this track
  • Though opening up the song with a somewhat empty instrumentation is a fair move, the problem with this track is that the band maintains this empty sound throughout the entire song and the vocals don’t change enough to keep the track interesting

Take Meta Mars is a song by the Flaming Lips and the fourth song to appear on their fourth release, In A Priest Driven Ambulance. Opening up with some guitar feedback, the drums and bass enter the mix and set a pretty moderate tempo for the track.

Coyne comes in with the vocal delivery for the track with an effect on his voice that creates quite a different sound than

what’s been present thus far on the record, and particularly on the preceding song.

Personally, I find the sound throughout the first verse of this track to be somewhat empty for my taste, and the band unfortunately doesn’t really fix this problem.

Although there are some background parts which help give the song a space-like sound which goes fittingly with the lyrics, the overall sound on the track is empty ...

      • and gets repetitive fairly quickly.

Overall, I think that Take Meta Mars certainly had potential with its sound, but the Flaming Lips unfortunately don’t fully deliver with this track.

Though opening up the song with a somewhat empty instrumentation is a fair move, the problem with this track is that the band maintains this empty sound throughout the entire song and the vocals don’t change enough to keep the track

        interesting.

As a result of this, the overall sound on the track turns out to be somewhat one-dimensional and it unfortunately feels as if the Flaming Lips wasted a good opportunity to come up with a solid track.

Overall, Take Meta Mars tires somewhat quickly, but if more dynamic changes or different parts had been added then I certainly think that the Flaming Lips could have ended up with a much stronger result.
