  • Taking on a slightly more aggressive sound than the previous track of the record, Unconsciously Screaming features a vocal performance from Coyne which is somewhat harsh throughout the verse and doesn’t make the easiest listening, though this problem slightly becomes less of an issue during the chorus of the song
  • Overall, I would say that Unconsciously Screaming has an interesting sound to it because it seems to attempt to blend the more aggressive style that the Flaming Lips had throughout their first two records with their style of songwriting present throughout this album
  • Overall, the Flaming Lips do a good job with this track and I would recommend it as one of the songs from this album to look into, even though it may have somewhat of a harsh sound at the start

Unconsciously Screaming is a song by the Flaming Lips and the second track on their fourth record, In A Priest Driven Ambulance. Taking on a slightly more aggressive sound than the previous track of the record, Unconsciously Screaming features a vocal performance from Coyne which is somewhat harsh throughout the verse and doesn’t make the easiest listening, though this problem slightly

becomes less of an issue during the chorus of the song.

Overall, I would say that Unconsciously Screaming has an interesting sound to it because it seems to attempt to blend the more aggressive style that the Flaming Lips had throughout their first two records with their style of songwriting present throughout this album.

Although the result of this is not terrible, I do find Unconsciously Screaming to be a song which make take a few listens before it starts to sink in.

My initial impression of this track was that it wasn’t too great because it had somewhat of a dissonant sound to it.

Although I find the album’s opening track, Shine On Sweet Jesus – Jesus Song No.

overall a better song, I think Unconsciously Screaming offers a nice contrast in that it takes on a harsher and more aggressive sound.

For those of you who were fans of the energetic tone that the Flaming Lips had on several songs throughout Hear It Is and Oh My Gawd, I would say that Unconsciously Screaming feels like a more developed

version of those songs so it makes for some better songwriting and the track doesn’t purely have to rely on its energy.

Overall, the Flaming Lips do a good job with this track and I would recommend it as one of the songs from this album to look into, even though it may have somewhat of a harsh sound at the start.
