  • Building up after about a minute into the track, percussion can be heard gradually getting stronger in the background of the song which makes me feel like the band are really going to take this track somewhere interesting
  • Despite these hopes, the Flaming Lips unfortunately let me down here and this part actually just leads into an outro which is far too similar to Ode To C
  • The biggest issue with this track is that the band really had a sound going for them which I thought showed a lot of promise, and then they completely drop the ball with the track

Ode To C. C. (Part II) is a song by the Flaming Lips and the penultimate track to appear on their sophomore effort, Oh My Gawd.

Thankfully, the second part of this track features an actual instrument in comparison to Ode to C. C.

(Part I) which was just made up of random collections of noise and had far too much resemblance to Revolution 9 for my tastes. Comprised of an acoustic guitar part and vocals over the top, the

vocal tone on this track is slightly different than the rest of the album in that it has a slightly more country-like sound to it, but not to an extreme extent.

        C. (Part I) for me to enjoy.

The biggest issue with this track is that the band really had a sound going for them which I thought showed a lot of promise, and then they completely drop the ball with the track. Though the song certainly had potential and a sound that the band really didn’t have anywhere else on

this album, the phrase of drifting into obscurity unfortunately applies perfectly to how I feel about the final parts of this song.

Despite this, the song only clocks in at about two minutes so the band never allowed themselves enough time to fully develop the sound on this track even from the beginning. Overall, although Ode To C.

        C. (Part II) is an immense step up from Part I, it’s still weaker than most of the other tracks on this record.
